Cottingham:
- Will look for someone to follow in the tradition of Al McGuire and Tom Crean.
- Won't name names of canidates.
- Recruits have been contacted now.
- Won't talk about the buyout clause.
- All assistant coaches are conducting their duties still
- Cottingham's voicemail and e-mail have been packed in the last 24 hours.
- Have begun the process of searching for a new coach.
- Won't have a search commitee. Will be a management decesion on who the best canidate is.
- Most players have been updated on situation if they weren't in class.
- Was on way to Colorado for WNIT when Crean tried to call him. Got call once he got off the plane.
- In the best conference in the country and have every expectation to compete at this level still.
- They will pay what the market demands to get the job.
- Not experience persay what they are looking for but more a person that is the right fit for the MU job.
- Wants an ethical person who will graduate players.
- Said Crean is a great coach who stated that Marquette was a great job.
- Not looking back but looking ahead.
- Tom will do the right thing and MU will do the right thing.
- When have a great coach have to be prepared to lose him.
- Look at the AL, look at attendance, look at the way we've played in the Big East, we will maintain this level.
- One of the great things about the Big East is the philosophy is that the conference season prepares teams for national championships.
- If can play with Big East teams can play with anyone.
- They are moving agressively and wants to do it quickly to be fair to recruits and players but they won't rush it by saying this is the best person in the next 2 days, 3 days, etc.
- Want to find best fit.
- Hasn't talked to students on campus yet.
- Been glued to phone.
- Got back at midnight last night.
- This is a day to get better.
- Marquette will be in a good place.
- Has talked to Bill Cords. On plane with Steve to WNIT. Offered any help. Will be helpful and Cottingham values that highly.
Thank you, Titan!

(still going - I'll update this)
NO SEARCH COMMITTEE.....I LOVE THIS PARTSo far so good, it puts responsibility on Cottingham, which is scary but appropriate and necessary. Search committees are not good for this kind of stuff.
Commerical still going. . .
Too many cooks....I agree. I sure as hell don't want some BOT member serving on a search committee. Look what they've done in the past!
thanks Tall Titan
My god this is the longest commercial break I've ever experienced.
On the plus side, Brewers 5-1 Cubs middle 7 ;D
Finally! The players are now on.
Wait no its Butler from the Wizards? What the hell!
The part about "not experience, but the right kind of person" scares me. We will not do well recruiting, maintaining recruits or winning quickly unless we get expereicne - someone who knows the ropes now and isn't using Marquette as their training ground so they can move on
Where are you listening? I have Caron Butler on 1250.
Yeah I thought when they came back it would be the players but I guess not! Must be waiting for them.
it's on 1250. unfortunately 5-2 now w/ one out bottom of the 7th... >:(
e-mail, voicemail busy-
Does that mean from people interested? Or from people who want input...
Any mention of the status of the staff? Who's in charge?
Cottingham did say that all other coaches were still conducting their duties.
Are we still waiting for the players or are they not broadcasting it?
I am starting to wonder that too. I can't imagine there would be this big of a gap.

Cottingham:
- Hasn't talked to students on campus yet.
Does he plan to? I mean, I guess their opinions can be heard. I've heard at least 50 opinions just from being on campus and going to classes. The overwhelming sentiment from what I've heard is exactly opposite to what most here are saying. Students seem to have less frustration with Crean's decision and more relief that he's gone. They also want the General to take the helm. I guess they go to the school and go to games, but 95% of students probably aren't going to give Cottingham anything he can work with.

Yeah, this would just be a huge waste of time. My sister said the air on campus was thick with "Kevin O'Neills" today. Christ.

Search committee seemed to do a good job last time. Even the guys that were identified as backups to Crean in case they couldn't get him have gone on to be decent coaches, albeit not necessarily the best character guys in the business.

Someone (reporter) asked Steve if he had spoken with students, not that he is really planning on it.
Bill Cords is enough of a search committee for Cottingham. As long as he's helping with the search, i'm confident we'll get someone good. Also, most students on campus really don't know much about who they want or who would be an option. KO is probably getting tossed around cuz he used to coach here and his name has been in the sporting news. I'd really like to see Xavier's coach, possibly Butler's, or Steve Levin.
The General would be nice though ;D

LOL YES! I must have heard his name a half dozen times today while walking around campus!
I think it depends what students you happen to be around.
What I've mainly heard around campus is students being pissed at him for a reaction and Sean Miller for a replacement.
Thanks, Titan. Good work right there. Were you a journalism major?
While there is no committee, Cott won't be working alone on this, of course. See Tranghese story on JSonline.com. Cords had lots of help landing TC. MU is not without resources.
This is gonna be fun. It's already a lot more interesting than wondering who might win the Final Four next weekend.
TT is straight up engineering! journalism students cant right that! :D

Message board has a spell check button.
Just for engineers!!!! :)
But, he spelled "right" correctly.
Guess we need a grammar check button now - oh boy.
What's with JS Online? They had Crean's press conference audio and video up all day, but they can't get MU press conference up. Must be some kind of conspiracy.
For those that were actually working and missed the press conference, I'm gonna' pin and lock this topic.
Not that I don't think it should get discussed - I just want this topic to stay as concise as possible.
