MU was caught flat-footed
Written by: Don Walker
While Tom Crean's name was always floated around when prominent coaching jobs became available, Marquette University officials were caught flat-footed when Crean took the Indiana University job.
A source close to Marquette's athletic department said Wednesday that Crean kept the job offer close to the vest, to the point where Father Robert Wild, the school's president, and Steve Cottingham, the school's new athletic director, were not immediately aware that Crean was ready to go to Indiana.
Cottingham was headed to Colorado for a WNIT game between Marquette and the University of Colorado when the news broke that Crean had accepted the Indiana job. Cottingham returned to Milwaukee immediately.
Wild, the source said, was headed to Washington when the news broke.
Crean did speak with both men about his decision to accept the Indiana job.

Thanks for 9 years Fr. Wild! I'm calling from my new home in Bloomington! Can you tell the players that I'm quitting?
Right on, nightmare!!
WTF? This is what pisses me off.
This job was open for over a month! IU said they wanted to name a coach before the Final Four? Fine, it's still days away.
He decides to get up and go down there the day Wild and Cottingham are supposed to be going out of town? WTF?!?! He can't take AN HOUR, a friggin hour, to go to campus, meet with the players, let them know what's going on, and then go?
Total garbage. This whole thing stinks. I never thought I'd say this, but the guy is a D bag.
...an enormous D Bag
Pick up an effing phone. Send a text message. Very weak.
I really hope this is false. I have been a TC fan, but if he didn't even advise or mention his intentions to the University's President or AD, that is just extremely unprofessional. Especially with what MU has provided him with over the last nine years, which basically let him be offered such a position. If Father Wild confirms this himself, then it will be a huge embarassment for the MU family, but a bigger blemish on the face of TC. Wow.
bad things happen to bad people. remember that.
can anyone clarify, does IU need permission to talk with Crean?
Fr. Wild was in Washington and in an office where my sister-in-law works. He did not anything at all about this until late Wednesday night.

It's not false....it was a d-bag move by TC in a big way. I had emailed someone in the department yesterday about 2 hours after the story broke and he hadn't heard anything about it. Definitely blind sided, definitely a classless move any way you cut it.

A bigger blemish on an already substantially blemished face.
Perhaps we are being unfair. He is going to Indiana after all...he was probably told he couldn't use his cell phone or send any text messages. ;)
Again, perception is a liability to those not close to a particular situation or crisis. One can only observe the actions/performance of an individual, and then an after-action report subsequent to the event reveals the true apprasial.
I for one perceived TC to be a professional, my after action report determined he was not. Sad.

Yikes.
I've been a big TC guy... but this is crappy to hear.
Hopefully more information comes out and this gets cleared up.
I'm hoping for the best... but it's not looking good.
Rosiak is pretty truthful and without bias, so if he's printing it, odds are that it's true.
