Is the new coach going to have some issues or what? Today, Indiana released two starters from the team, Armon Bassett and Jarmarcus Ellis for rules violations (did not attend a meeting after being told to attend or be released). With D.J. White and Lance Stemler graduating, Eric Gordon probably entering the draft, these two dimissals, two highly rated recruits backing out and potential NCAA program hits, what direction does IU go? Who will even take/consider it?? AND they want to fill the position by Saturday..
the losses are really insignificant for the big picture. perfect example is Pitino and kentucky...coach looking to build a rebuild a program despite sanctions and defections. If you are lookig for a caoch that wants to win in season 1 then they probably would not be interested in this job. But any coach that realizes the potential of the job and is willing to work his ass off for 3-5-10 years done the road they will be very interested. 2-3-4 years down the road a guy like Jamarcus ellis with one year of eligibility matters nil.
In 1999 The University of Rhode Island planned their entire coaching search around Lamar Odom's wants and needs, a few years later they were hiring a new coach.
IU is going to hire a guy who will win for 10-15 years, the next 2 or 3 are irrelevant.

Any coach who believes the Indiana faithful is going to stand by cheering politely for a non-contender for the next 3-5-10 years is delusional. Given all the current problems, IU's next coach might get a one-year honeymoon. But after that, it's win or else.
IU Basketball Job not the plum its fans think it is:

some interesting references to TC.
I would think Drew would be the best choice.
Ties to the state and the midwest and look what he did at Baylor. The issues at IU are nothing compared to what he had to deal with at Baylor and he took that team to the NCAAs.

My neighbor just called me and said Andy Katz says Crean is going to IU in an official type manner. We know how many times Katz has been wrong before.

Trying to put a tumultuous few months behind it, Indiana University is on the verge of naming a new coach, Tom Crean of Marquette, a source with the school told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Tuesday.
The Hoosiers have to hope that the hiring goes more smoothly than the awkward parting with former coach Kelvin Sampson.
Indiana is awaiting a letter of agreement from Crean before a deal is finalized, and a tentative news conference has been scheduled for Wednesday to make an announcement.
He resigned amid allegations of NCAA violations. Dan Dakich, an assistant under Sampson and a former Indiana player and assistant under Bob Knight, took over as interim coach for the rest of the season.
The university first contacted Washington State coach Tony Bennett late Saturday night, but he withdrew from consideration.
Crean, who took the Dwyane Wade-led Golden Eagles to the Final Four in 2003, just completed a 25-10 season. Marquette lost to Stanford in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Crean is 190-96 in nine seasons at Marquette and has taken the Golden Eagles to the NCAA tournament five times. Before that, he was an assistant at Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Western Kentucky.
Dan Bernstein of 670 the Score, says that he has a source saying that Crean is the guy for the Indiana job. I just caught the end of it, but towards then end he was saying that "his source" said that they would be a "good hire." Then Terry Boers said that he was hearing that IU could not match the money for the high profile coaches (such as Crean). So i'm assuming that it was mostly speculation. Interesting to hear though.
