28 free throws to 12
We out rebounded them 45-38
If you told me that we would only cause 8 turnovers, I would have said we'd have lost badly. If you further said that the Lopez brothers (a duo that, though very good, averages only a combined 28.7) would outscore their counterparts Hayward and Barro by a combined 37, I would have said we would have lost by 30.
It is a testament to the heart and grit of this team that we outrebounded a much bigger team and to the three junior guards that we battled right to the last in OT. It seemed like we got every loose ball for 45 minutes.
With around 13 minutes left in the 2nd half the fouls were 9 to 1. Marquette didn't get into the bonus until 2 minutes into OT.
The refs called the double technicals on Stanford's coach at the 3:36 mark of the 1st half. The next foul call on Stanford didn't occur until the 16:00 mark of the 2nd half - a 7:36 minute span. In that time frame, MU was whistled for 5 fouls. The next foul on Stanford was called at the 11:18 mark of the 2nd half (that's 2 fouls now in a span of 14:54). In that time span, MU was called for 6 fouls, for an 11-2 discrepancy since their coach was booted. The next foul on Stanford was called at the 8:43 mark. Shockingly, MU was not called for a foul in that time span, bringing the foul calls to 11-3 since the T's. At 4:40 left, Stanford was whistled for another foul. MU was also called for 1 foul in that time span, bringing it to 12-4 since the technicals. Stanford and MU swapped fouls by the 3:53 mark, 13-5 advantage for the Cardinal. Stanford was not called for another foul in regulation, but MU was called for 3 fouls, with the discrepancy over the last 23:36, 16-5 in favor of Stanford. In overtime, the only foul call was against Stanford, bringing the final foul disparity over the final 28:36 to 16 fouls against Marquette to 6 fouls against Stanford. Over the final 33:36, MU took 6 free throws to Stanford's 23. Prior to Stanford coach being ejected, Mu took 2 FT's to Stanford's 5. The coach's ejection changed how they called the game from there on out.

Unbelievable, pretty much sums up our season. For some reason the refs never give us a fair shake.

Yeah, I don't get it. Maybe we're just too biased in favor of our own team to see it, but it stinks that we really never walk away from a game going "Wow! Those refs sure saved our butts in the end! Thank goodness we had a 10 foul differential in our favor and were able to go to the line 15 times more than the opponent."
