Title: Horrible loss to digest, but...
Post by: CTWarrior on March 22, 2008, 09:22:11 PM
I am so proud of this team.  They played their hearts out today and very nearly pulled this game out.  To go into overtime without Barro and take it to the wire was tremendous.  A foul shot here, or a call there and we would have won.  They don't always make the smartest play, but they busted their humps this whole tournament.

This loss is going to sting for awhile for me. I can recall so many times where I thought we were onto victory - but we missed a shot that rimmed out or we took a bad shot instead of going to the hole. This sucks right now.

This sucks, but my hope is that with James back next year, these guys carry this loss/feeling with them for the next 365 days plus. When the finally watch the film, which could be a while from now, they will be able to clearly see that one or two little things here or there would have been the difference in this one. They have 6-7 months to stew over this one, and work on the things they need to work on. I have thought for weeks now, that (with James) Mu is going to be very, very good next year. Depth, experience, drive and motivation. I expect to see a talented group on a mission and well equipped to win in the tournament. In the meantime, go Georgetown, and I'm moving on...

Totally agree....If James comes back we will be very difficult to beat.  Although I don't think he is the best player on our team, he is clutch for at least two or three games on our team.

this hurts but next year's team could be very good with DJ back.  gotta give credit to this team... they played very hard and well today.  I am proud of their effort today.

These guys are different players than they were a year ago.  A year ago McNeal was the celebrated defender, but he had a poor handle on the ball, and was often an offensive liability because of all the turnovers.  DJ had the sophomore slump in a serious way, and we didn't know which DJ was going to show up from game to game.  Remember that?  He became the floor general this year, and JM is still in the process of becoming this complete force on both ends of the court.  Quite the leap for both guys this year.

Everyone of our players who stepped on the court tonight played with fire, guts and intensity - every second they were out there - they smelled victory - they knew they could play in the land of the giants.  I too am proud of the effort this year, and especially in this game - I'm wearing my Marquette proudly all summer long until we start it up again.

If we get the three amigos back, with tyshawn taylor, williams, otule and fulce coming in - we will have two starting teams really - a very strong bench.  I hope our big otule gets up to spread fast - we will need him  And Burke played pretty tough tonight - he felt pretty bad that he gave up the winning basket - you can tell - but it comes down to lots of other things - not just that shot - that determined the outcome.

I love this team.  we did good.
