Title: Chicago fans NOT getting MU game. NYC fans, no soup either
Post by: ChicosBailBonds on March 18, 2008, 12:25:34 PM

For clarity, it will not be on your local CBS station once the Purdue game starts.  Bars, etc should have it if they subscribe to DIRECTV's Mega March Madness package

along with this, does anyone know the specific link on channelsurfing or another site that could get the game? I'll be at work and watching it on MMOD won't be an option I'm guessing since they'll probably have that game blacked out in MKE. thanks.

Does the Direct TV mega march madness package pretty much guarantee that sports bars should be able to pull down the game.

Also, do you know why this would only be available to satelite customers and not cable?

I'd be shocked if channelsurfing has it, they're probably going to get shut down here very soon from what I'm hearing...lots of legal folks at television companies not very pleased at this point.

I understand that Chicago is a Big Ten market, but honestly I can't beleive we dont get the Marquette game. Not only is there a huge alumni base in Chicago, Marquette has the most Illinois/ Chicago based players. NYC also has a huge alumni following and they don't get the game either??? I must say I am outraged!!!

We pay for it exclusively which is why we get it, however there are about 25 markets that have grandfathered multicast rights that can also show it.

To answer your question, yes the sports bars that have MMM package will have the Marquette game.  Bars and casinos are HUGE customers of this package for obvious reasons.

Didn't you hear Len Elmore the other day....Pitt has a lot of NYC players.   ;)  Makes sense to have Pitt game on in NYC.

I know it will make zero difference, but I emailed CBS2 Chicago to voice my displeasure. I don't know if it was a network or local decision, but I thought it'd be fun to let them know that picking Baylor/Purdue over MU/Kentucky was a bad decision on their end.

If anyone is looking to join in, here ya go: http://cbs2chicago.com/contact

Or you just register at cbssports.com and you can watch all the games free on your computer...

I am, but if I remember correctly, the Madison and Marquette games got blacked out on MMOD since they were being shown live on tv.  I may be mistaken...hopefully for my sake, i'd much rather watch the game than only be able to listen to Homer and Jimmy Mac.

That is correct, MMOD (online) must black out games in the home team territory so they will not be on if you live in Milwaukee.

since it isn't the locally televised game you should have no problem watching it, as long as your internet connection is fast enough to stream it without choppiness.

Does anyone know if there is some sort of March Madness package with Dish Network?  I can't seem to find anything.

If not, looks like I'm headed back up to school for Thursday or over to the Schoolyard.

i doubt Dish Network would have since DirecTV pays for the exclusive broadcast rights.

If you are using MMOD online, play it safe and create a 2nd user account with a random zip code that has nothing to do with the WI/IL market like 90210 or 16507 (for those in Erie, PA) that way you will be blacked out from those games.

Nope, they do not have it.

Incidentally, just got the actual maps.  MU will be on 60% of the country, but only 5% constant. I'll post it in a second

Just head over to any sports bar in Chicago. They all should carry the Mega March Madness Package, so not only can you watch MU, but also the rest of the match-ups.

No problem, happy to help.  Nothing worse then wanting to watch our boys play and you're stuck not being able to, especially at a place like Marquette where so many of us came from outside of Wisconsin and didn't stay in Milwaukee.
