Title: Getting To Anaheim/Alternatives if you can't
Post by: drewm88 on March 16, 2008, 05:58:52 PM
I was going to the NCAA's. That was my whole spring break plan. Now we're in Anaheim, the only place that it does not work to drive to. Anybody have a suggestion for finding a way out there without paying through the nose. I've checked all the popular cheap flight websites for Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis, even Des Moines. Nothing under $500 and climbing fast. If anybody can give me advice or suggestion, that would be great.

Alternatively, if it doesn't work for me to go to Anaheim. Any suggestions for an all out great place to take in the glory of MU/tourney in general? I'm thinking like a step below a Vegas sportsbook. Incredible sportsbar/MU haven? Figure anywhere in the upper midwest is in play for this.

Not sure about getting there cheap. But once there, you can save money by hanging at Chicos' pad. I'm sure he and the Mrs. would be happy to host a few fellow alums. Just bring your own beer, towels, and clean the bathtub before you leave.

I live 15 minutes tops from the arena.

Try flying into Long Beach or John Wayne airport.  JetBlue flies into Long Beach.

Warriormom, can I get the details of that? What airports is he using? Cheapest I've found all night has been about $375. Hoping I'm not too late to get a fare like that.

Try biddingfortravel.com

It lets you know deals people have been getting on priceline.com

Good luck!

Southwest, Sun Country out of MSP, Jet Blue ex-O'Hare, and others are your friends.

Get creative - plenty of airports in SoCal.  Orange County, LAX, Long Beach, Ontario, Palm Springs, San Diego, Burbank, etc.

Lastly, do you (or your parents, or the aunt/uncle who convinced you to go to Marquette in the first place, or whoever) have frequent flyer miles?  If there's availability, that's a good way to counter a $500 fare.

Best of luck.

Thanks everybody who's tried to help. At this point I think I have exhausted all options and am left hoping for a last minute price drop. Oh well, at least I have this problem. Much better than making my plans to be at the BC for the NIT or anything. Everyone who can make it there be sure to Ring Out Ahoya for me.

Drew,
Just heard of someone else who named their offer on priceline for $200 Tuesday thru Sunday and it was accepted.  One stop I think not sure which airports.
