Post by: NateDoggMarq on March 16, 2008, 09:36:12 AM

I've been telling people, prepare to be asked to bend over today ...

BTW if you're looking for some serious entertainment, check out (some) Baajr kool-aid drinkers demanding a ONE seed on the JS blog:

Isn't it like this in recent years?  Selection day has seemed to be deflating the last two times in particular.  Be prepared to play the opponent ranked highest among the opposing seed.

It's because ratings are meaningless.  They play in a mid-major conference, and not a very good one at that but they all have great records, and for the ratings, records are everything.  I maintain that the all of the top 6-7 teams in the Big East would have won the Big Ten hands down.

That having been said, prepare for all of them to have a better seed than MU, it isn't right but unless that uniform suddenly says "Duke" on the front of it, I would start preparing for a 8 seed and if that happens this time, if Crean doesn't publicly go ape#### I will have lost a ton of respect for him.

I hope that doesn't happen  because I don't want to have to try to get a flight, car, and hotel room in Anaheim.

The only reason why we would have lower seed than Indiana or MSU is b/c we are in the Big East.  Its much stronger competition and the teams that finished ahead of us are going to get better seeds.  Unless the committee decides that the Big East is much better than the Big ten (which it should), MU has to get a ranking below Gtown, Lville, UConn, ND and Pitt.  I would hope that we would get the same seed as ND but its unlikely. I think Indiana will be overseeded while we will be underseeded.
I'm preparing for a 7 seed, even though I think it will be a royal screw job.

If they consider our recent games--we are "playing like" the third-fourth best team in the BE right now--we get the 6.  If they consider our BET seed, we get a 7-8.  No way we get a 5 being the 5th place BE regular season over the 2nd-3rd place B10 teams--even though they have not finished well.  Fair?  No, but look at the weekly ratings and how the BE is slighted.

If we get an 8, TC should decline and go to the NIT.   I am thinking 6 seed with plenty to gripe about.  I am hoping Omaha as I have tickets there, but don't expect it.

Unfortunately, that option is no longer available.

I think we deserve a 6, and without getting slighted on opponent or destination.  Though I wouldn't be all that surprised to be traveling to Anaheim as a 7.  I will be very angry if we're an 8 again, which means the matchup is hardly favorable since the only difference between an 8 and a 9 is the 8 wears a white jersey and actually loses more often.  Hopefully having Big East representation on the committee this year will help our cause.
