Title: Worst Call/Announcing Moment of Season
Post by: CTWarrior on March 14, 2008, 11:36:43 PM
Late first half.  Acker dribbling toward right.  He is bludgeoned from behind by Brown, sending him careening into Benjamin, who whacks him across the arm while hitting with his shoulder causing him to lose the ball as he stumbled backward.  As he retreives the ball in the back court MU is called for a back court violation.  They run a beautiful slo mo replay showing the carnage in detail, and Elmore's brilliant comment, "...look at the harrasment there by Pittsburgh (in a complimentary fashion)...Acker should try to pass rather than dribble through the double team..."

Len Elmore played without a helmet for far too long.

There were many terrible calls in this game.  That one stood out b/c Elmore (a NY kid) referenced it several times and said Acker needed to use better judgement.  What???

What about Elmore's (he has NY pride)  contention that Young doesn't travel on his shot fake while ESPN is showing a montage of his shot fakes where Young is indeed traveling on every play?  Elmore (he eats pizza from NY) said Young tells the refs that he is not traveling on the shot fake and that's why its not being called.  If that works, Acker should remind the officials that when Pitt (they have NY kids) beats the crap out of him and he loses the ball as a result, it should be a #!*#$# foul!!!

Does Len Elmore do games for CBS? please say no. please say no.

I seem to recall he may be (or may have been) paired with Gus Johnson.,.that's just great. One guy screaming at the top of his lungs, and another spewing garbage that makes you wonder if he is actually watching the game.

Elmore and Gus Johnson used to be a team on CBS, but I think they were broken up.  Elmore may have learned that Gus wasn't from NY and had no use for him.

Len Elmore probably grew up in the suburbs....

Elmore didn't bother me.  I've gone to streaming Homer and Mac, watching TV on mute.  Waaaaaaaaay better.

Great idea, Elmore is so unbearable.....the guy is a complete clown.  I'm guessing he was once a good basketball player because I can think of no other reason he's employed.  Just awful.

Hilltopper, isn't there a delay on the radio stream?  So you would probably see the play on tv, then hear it about 15 seconds later?

Yup .. but I have a DVR, so I just pause it until I get to a point that Homer is up to.

If you don't have a DVR (Tivo, whatever): GET ONE.  I've made this offer to friends:  Get a DVR, pay what it costs.  Time Warner, it's like $8/month.  If after 1 year, you don't think the DVR has saved you $96 worth of your time, I will refund your money personally.

Yeah I tried that as well. I told my dad as we were listening about midway during the first half that there was no way I could listen to these guys for another half (hey! did you know that 5 players on Pitt are from NYC?). But unfortunately when I tried it, it was at least 15 seconds, I'd say more like 25.

"Elmore (he eats pizza from NY) said Young tells the refs that he is not traveling on the shot fake and that's why its not being called."

That killed me as well.

How does this work?

Young: Hey Tim, uhh when I do my patented shot fake and it appears to be a travel, uhhh... it's not.

Higgins: grrr#@$%, charge, sldjfosieer, technical, asldkjf sdfjsodijdfjsddf, blahhhh, young no travel, lskdf sss, grrrrrrr

Young: Thanks Tim.

What a joke.

In true ESPN fasion, Shulman can't help himself by throwing in one more "its all about these kids from NY, blah, blah, blah" as the clock winds down. Just call the damn game. I hate ESPN more and more every day, and I have hated them for a while now, so that's saying something.

Hats off to Pitt. What a performance.

I was turning off the tv in disgust, but did I just hear Shulman correctly:  "This has nothing to do with beating Georgetown.  This has nothing to do with winning the BE tournament, this is about winning here in NY"...for Pitt.  Did he honestly just say that?

Kudos to Pitt for a great week.

I watched Animal House while having the game on (mute) in the background ... turned it back on for the final two minutes ... I didn't count but I'm sure in the last couple minutes / quick postgame there were more than enough NYC references.

Was it ... 5 ... players from Pitt who are from NYC?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Len Elmore and Gus Johnson are teaming up as an announce team for CBS this week. If there's only a way to mute Elmore and just hear Johnson, sign me up. Unlike last year, Gus Johnson is replacing James Brown to call a regional final this year.

Oh, and apparently Pitt has some players from the New York area. It's gotten so bad, my wife even is starting to wonder why that's all they talk about.
