Title: March 14 Bracketology is out
Post by: CTWarrior on March 14, 2008, 11:31:46 AM
Marquette seeded a 5, with path of Baylor, Purdue, North Carolina, Georgetown to get to the Final Four.

Reasonable chance at a sweet 16 with that draw.

Obviously, Joey didn't read our four or five seed thread.

Well, for whatever his opinion is worth, he has Purdue, ND, UConn, and Indiana as the 4 seeds. Butler, Drake and Vandy as the other 5's. Based on that, I'd say we have a real chance at a 4. What does Joe Lunardi know? I guess we'll find out.

I'd take that draw. We could handle Baylor, and Purdue is a worthy, but beatable opponent. Sweet 16 would be very possible with that draw.

Lunardi knows whatever he projects for MU will be two higher than our actual seed...

Why?  I don't understand some people on this boards idea that we will get jobbed this year.  This year, unlike the past few, we have won n our postseason conference tournament... I think we will be a 5, we have reasons to be now that we have beat 2 in our tournament, especially if we win tonight.

If we win tonight, we should be a 4 as long as we play well on Saturday.

Does anyone know how they determine where seeds are placed for first & secoind round games. Diffrent predictions have #5's playing in D>C. and others say #6 are playing there?

It seems as if everybody would be happy jusst making it to the sweet sixteen?
That's why I asked the question before why the 4 or 5.It's like o.k we made it to North Carolina, now we can go home.Lets play a 2 or 3 seed.I surely wouldn't cry if they seeded us 6.I don't think it will happen now. It's graet to see us win,but why all the concern over 4 or 5?

They rank the teams 1-65. Then they place #1 close to home. (Assuming they are #1, they'll put UNC in Raleigh.) They move down the list like this, filling out the locations. They also "protect" the top 4 seeds. Hypothetically, if Georgetown gets a 4, they may have run out of places near Georgetown at that point and have to place them in Anaheim. If USC happened to be a 5, they would not put USC in the same Anaheim pod as Georgetown because that is not "protecting" Georgetown by having to face USC in their backyard.

Thus, you can probably assume we will not be in Raleigh. Between Duke and UNC it is most likely the only seeds that will be there are 1,2, 7-10, 15, and 16. We will be none of those. I think if Stanford wins another game, we may be able to rule out Anaheim as well. UCLA will be a 1 or a 2 and Stanford should be able to get a 3. That means we'd have to be a 6 to go out there in that case.

Final note (if you're still following): You can't play at a venue where you are the host. I believe Georgetown is the host in D.C. so they will not be there.

I heard on sportstalk this morning about the historical records of NCAA seeds.

I think Seed #4 has a bad record...something like 3 and 23 in the second round.

#5 has a much better chance at advancing, historically speaking.

i really dont like those matchups.  i dont think we matchup favorably with purdue at all.

im hoping that a win today/close loss tomorrow would give us a 4, and possible 3 if we win the BET.  i hope we get in the midwest bracket, i hate to face UNC in charlotte.
