Title: guess there will be no "good luck tonight" threads...
Post by: ecompt on March 14, 2008, 07:27:36 AM
Not much love over at pantherlair, where they have no use for MU. Guess the fact that we own them and constantly kick their ass is a sore subject. By far the worst fans in the BE. Whiny, slimy creeps.

Should be a great game!

This should be a very interesting game tonight.  You walloped us in Madison, so it's hard to be confident, but Fields is healthy and it seems he has been able to help get the mojo back.  You've got a great team.  Good Luck in the NCAA's.  Here's hoping for a good, injury-free game tonight!

Madison!  Now that is a harsh insult!  Please do not try to paint us as a bunch of tree hugging, pot smoking, lefty hippies....because that is not what we represent!  Not that there is anything wrong with that?!?!

gopitt and ech:

Please read this thread:

Then explain how hoping one of our players has a broken wrist .. or hoping that his hand will be amputated .. is classy?

Pitt fan I am sure you are all wonderful human beings but I hope you burn in hell, despite the fact that my family is from Glenshaw. The Cathedral Of learning MUST BURN.

yep....stupid post.  no reasonable explination for a fan to wish injury on a player.  period.  but do you recognize the hipocracy of the original post?

So, what you're trying to say is .. you can never complain about terrible fans, because then you are as well?    Sorry, I reject that.

Just an FYI, as MU has been in the Big East for 3 years .. we've had many visits from many different BE team fans .. Pitt fans have been unanimously regarded as the worst, hands down.  While I'm sure you have a sector of classy fans, you also have large chunk of terrible fans, larger than any other BE team, and that has caught our attention.

probably wrong of me to categorize all Pitt fans as whiny or slimpy creeps. A bit of an overreaction. But the times I've visited on their boards the hatred shown for us borders on lunatic. The rivalry on the court is tremendous and I hope for a good, clean game where no one gets injured.

You guys bring it on yourselves....without any provocation.  Some pretty sick fans over there.
Title: Sorry. Honest mistake about Madison.

Re: Pitt fans, there does seem to be an unusual amount of bad blood between the two schools.  But to categorize Pitt fans as the worst in the league because of this is a bit harsh.  Head over to the Louisville board today and you'll see a ton of mutual respect and respectful posting. Except for WVU, the bball relationships with the other schools has always been great.  I just think this has developed into a rivalry of sorts and it produces more heated exchanges.

For example, you all seem to be nice here, but if I was to ask Wisky fans what they thought it probably wouldn't be too complimentary.

Again, hoping for a good, hard fought game.  Good Luck next week as well.

That's only because Wisky fans are jackasses.   :D

Couple of Pitt fans/alumni here at work...good guys; a good number of Pitt posters are freaks though.  I'm really looking forward to this game, these two teams play great ball when they are on the same court.

And the blood stains on the MSG court shouldn't be that hard to get out when it's all over.

It's interesting how Pitt has become one of our most bitter rivals in only three years.  They started this fracas with their classless attitude, the cheap shots from their teams, and their whiny b of a coach.  Fortunately for us, we have ended it most often.  Haven't we beaten Pitt like five or six out of eight or something?

I think we actually drew first blood with our victory over them in our final four run.  They were very good that year - it must have hurt bad.

I actually enjoy people like gopitt and ech that at least come over here and want to talk basketball, i understand 95% on pantherlair hates us, dom, and crean, but let them hate all they want.  Thank you for the 2 guys that are actually rational fans!

gopitt, ech and pittgirl are representative of the rabid Pitt fans who can actually converse intelligently without saying "I hope he has his leg amputated or his arm broken" or insult MU for whatever reason. Every board has its a-holes (I can be one) but I don't think anyone on this board has ever posted that he hopes a player on anopther team has a serious injury.

with all of the fan finger pointing aside...i must admit that i cringed last night watching mu dismantle nd.  mu is a very bad match-up for pitt.  especially your three guards.   mcneal may just be the best player in the country none of the talking heads ever mention.  and when dj plays under control, he is deadly.  dribble penetration is the bane of pitt basketball, and i dont think anyone in the big east does it better than mu.

that said, pitt seems to be finally gel-ing at the right time after all of the injuries.  if ramon and fields can continue their good production this game should be a one possession game down to the last tick.

oh....and as soon as cubillion does his "classy" (;)) shoulder shimmy, i hope dejuan blair plants him into the third row. ;D  here's to a good game, no injuries, and deep runs in the big dance for all the big east teams.

You can't generalize and say that all Pitt fans or all MU fans "have no class" or are "disrespectful" just based on what people say on message boards.  The fact of the matter is that only a small fraction of Pitt or MU fans actually post on boards.  Just because there are some jackasses that go online and say stuff doesn't mean it should change your perception of a fan base.

I am sure when it comes down to it, each teams fans and supporters aren't much different from one another.  Its just that some schools have more fans that others that decide to make a User Name and post on some online message board.

With that being said, good luck Pitt, good luck MU. Should be a heck of a ballgame!

ech, I wouldn't worry too much about Cubillan. I don't think he's hit a shot since the last Pitt game. That shimmying is the main reason I hope he never gets off the bench tonight. Best of luck.

Indeed, ech .. many MU fans are have difficulties with Cubillan's demonstrative displays.  While it's good to show emotion on the court, his dances can be a bit much, even from our perspective .. from the opposing perspective, I'm sure they are maddening.

definitely a very key player for MU... as he goes, most often so goes the team.

nearly always a good game.. matches with pitt are now among the first I look for at the beginning of the season when the schedule is released.

he hasn't had much reason to strut recently (unless his fortune changes tonight) so I don't think you have much to worry about.. if it makes you feel any better, there are plenty of MU fans that believe he is unnecessarily over the top too.

agreed and right back at ya - although I would be quite happy too it if it was boring game for us :D

Ugh -- talking about another teams' fans is just a ridiculously stupid dick-measuring contest.  Every fan base has its idiots, and I don't really see the point of making the guys who've made their way over here defend idiotic statements made at a Pitt board.
