i don't want either, that means we play a number 1.I'll take the 6 and be happy.

How does that mean we play a 1? I believe the winner of the 8 vs. 9 game plays the #1 seed. Correct me if I'm wrong...but a 4 or 5 seed would be great!
Go Marquette!!!

Man, that's at least 4 games away, 2 of which are completely not guaranteed.  You'll have a whole 4 days to worry about the Sweet 16 if we get to that point.

Then the winner of the 8/9 vs 1 plays the winner of 5/12 vs 4/13, but that's 2 weeks away if we ever get there.

We need Indiana and/or Purdue to lose early in the Big Ten tournament...that would help if we want to sneak into a 4 seed.

5 seeds suck because of who the 12 seed is.

This sounds negative - but really I just meant it as a "take one game at a time" comment and not a comment on the team's ability to progress in the tournament.

I know what you saying about the 8-9 match up,and I guess I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but I was thinking of the big picture.I didn't want the team to lose to Syracuse last Saturday, but You had to think the match-ups were much better in the Big East Tourney being a 6 with the match ups so far.I didn't want to face Uconn.I think we can play with some of the potential 2 or 3's out there,I would prefere not to play the UCLA,North Carolina's until later.

Beating ND may have also put us in a position to jump ahead of them into their 4 seed.

I don't think we move ahead of ND based on this win.  If we follow up with win over Pitt then maybe and if we win the BET then definitely.

Maybe so, but according to today's updated RPI, we moved ahead of ND.  We probably need to win tonight to stay there, but with a higher RPI and 2 of 3 wins head to head, I like our chances of being seeded ahead of ND.

I dunno.. the last time we played "a number" in the NCAA tournament turned out pretty good for us  8-)  83-69

Doesn't the committee look at how you played lately and head to head matchups, based on that you woudl think that we woudl have to be seeded in front of ND.

I think our resume is now better than theirs.  The best way to distinguish these teams is head to head based on these metrics.  Everything else is too close.

                                             MU        ND
RPI                                        19           23
Conference Record               13-7   14-5
vs RPI 1-50                            4-7        5-6
vs RPI 51-100                         3-1       2-1
Head to Head!                         2-1      1-2
Best win (not head to head)   At Wisc.   Uconn(at home)
L10                                    8-2          7-3

I look at those numbers and conclude we should probably have the same seed. Will obviously depend on the other teams in  and around the same neighborhood.

They also rank the seeds.  For instance yesterday Joey Brackets had us as the lowest five and this resulted in us playing the highest 4 - Stanford.  If we do indeed end up tied with ND, I would hope that we would end up with a higher "intra -seed" if that is a word  and get a more favorable match up.

I think the key for MU is to just win tonight, because I honestly believe that by the time the game tips off tomorrow, they will more or less have us slotted, with a possibility that if we play/beat G'town (not WVU), we may get a slight up tick if it makes sense from an overall seeding/pairing perspective.

The question to me is, what is our ceiling?  Is it a 4 or if we win the BE tourny, could we get a 3?

It wouldn't just be this win over ND... it would also be our demolishing of them earlier in the season.  No way can it be justified that ND deserves a higher seed.

After last night, we firmly entrenched ourselves as a 5. If we win tonight, we will be a 4 seed.  All that said, it may not matter as the committee can move a team up or down a one spot based on match-ups.

Well to answer that, is there 12 or more teams that almost certainly will be seeded ahead of us? I think so...

UNC, Memphis, UCLA, UT, Duke, Texas, G'town, Xavier, Kansas, Wisconsin, UL, Stanford...that's 12. Drake? - probably. Butler? Perhaps.

I can't argue with your list of 12.  All I can say is that its a shame that no matter what we do, it is a shame we won't get seeded ahead of Bucky, who did not play nearly as strong of a schedule as we did.
