Title: Most Overrated Conference

During last nights game, Len Elmore was asked which conference he thought was the strongest.  Elmore admitted being somewhat biased (Maryland Grad), but he said he thought the ACC was the strongest. Believing the ACC has two strong teams and not much beyond, I was surprised by his opinion.  What do you think?

Even though it's not generally that highly regarded this year, the BIG TEN would get my vote.

That's was one of the reasons I didn't make it an option 0 the Big 10 would get a ton of votes. The other reason is that I haven't heard anyone say they thought the Big 10 was one of the top 2-3 conferences this year.

Can't be overrated if everyone thinks your bad. Maybe B-10 is most dilusional conference, but not most overrated.

ACC.

Big Ten is always overrated, Its funny this year its not said how great the conference is anymore and it just so happens to coincide with its move off of ESPN. Hmmm.
The Big 10 has some great coaches at great tradition institutions, but the basketball is not as good as it used to be. It is way too top heavy, and there are teams in it that can barely compete on the same Level (i.e. Penn St. and Northwestern) Last year just worked for them in that they had a great Ohio St. team, Sure they had multiple final four teams on several occasions but overall it can't hold its own with the ACC and that has been proven time and again. I believe the big east is the toughest conference to get through unscathed, and this year in there tournament you will see how mentally tough the Big East teams are when they go against the competition. The Big Ten may be able to return to a seat as one of the three best conferences, but it will take a lot of work at places like Illinois and Minnesota in order to offset the pending demolition of Indiana Basketball.

Beat me to it. Everyone knows the B10 is horrible.

ACC, lets be honest- Aside from Duke and UNC, does anyone else in the tournament scare you?

I think you missed the SEC here.  They are very weak this year.  Tennessee is obviously very good, (not FF good, though), and Vanderbilt is solid, but rest of league is down.

I think its generally agreed that this is a down year for the SEC, likely only getting 4 teams in the tourney.  As with the Big Ten, I haven't heard anyone say they think the SEC is one of the top 2-3 conferences.  The reason why I started this poll is that ACC is mentioned as the top conference and I just don't see it.

Good point.  Then I would say the Big East.  I think 7 teams really aren't that good.  Cincy, SHU, St. John's, Providence, USF, Rutgers and DePaul is a pretty weak underbelly to the conference.  That's 44% of the teams.

The second to last place team in the ACC is NC State, and they won at Villanova, and home against Davidson and Cincinnati.  Virginia and BC are pretty bad, but that's really only 3 bad teams out of 12, 25%.

At the same time though, who would you take in a nuetral court game MU/Pitt (BE #6/7) vs. Clemson/Va Tech (ACC 3/4).   I would take the Big East in any of those matchups.  The Big East has 7-8 legitimate tournament teams, even if the bottom is weaker as a %.  That is just way too many good teams to claim the ACC is better.
