Title: I am probably alone on this about Bobby Gonzalez
Post by: NateDoggMarq on March 13, 2008, 06:39:17 AM
But their is something about his demeanor, although goofy, over dramatic, and over the top; that seems very pure and sincere.
If you ask me it is very refreshing for me to see that emotion from the coach.  Now do I think Bobby Gonzales is a good coach?  not really, but do I find it oddly refreshing YES.

Bobby Gonzales reminds me of Jerry Glanville; A guy that see's his team like a fan would see his team and gets frustrated at a lot of stupid mistakes.  Seriously the emotion I see from Glanville and Gonzales is the same emotional roller coaster that I go through every close game.

I like Gonzalez, and I think most Big East coaches do. Yes, he's a little wacky, but it seems he genuinely cares about his players.

I would change the "probably" in your title to "most likely" or "undoubtedly" or maybe even "without question."

Gonzalez is a buffoon. He was at Manhatten and is at Seton Hall. I think your comparison to Glanville speaks volumes. All show and no substance. He is easily in my top three most disliked coaches.

Instead of the word "refreshing" I tend to use the words "tired," "obnoxious," and "fraudulent," when I think of Bobby G.

NOTE: As I was about to post this, ecompt replied. Perhaps the "probably" in your title should remain...

If the guy keeps it up, he's going to pop a gasket.

Here's the thing though, he's NOT a fan, he's the frickin coach and needs to act like one.  He's more annoying to me more than anything and I think should be more professional on the sidelines.  I can understand working the refs during the game (sidenote: something TC should be doing more of) but B Gonzo is calling for calls on virtually EVERY play.  The guy is a Head Coach in the Big East, not of some teenage rec league for cryin out load!  Simply annoying.

Obnoxious is the perfect word for him.

I think "Vacationing" is the perfect word to describe him as of 10:37CT last night.

I think he's a lot more likeable than Coach K or Bo or Jim Calhoun or Slick Rick.

Does he also leave Elvis a pair of tickets for every home game?

I think his attitude and demeanor lead directly to players like Nutter taking cheap sots and his teams tendency to go through wild stretches where they play undisciplined basketball.

I know opinions vary on Crean but he never loses his cool and his teams play hard, disciplined basketball. Players who take cheap shots and play undisciplined basketball don't last long at MU, see Ryan Ammoroso.

I look forward to reading the following two headlines...

1.  Bobby Gonzalez has been fired from Seton Hall.

2.  Bobby Gonzalez has been hired at lame directional state school from somewhere in Lousiana

He is a clown.
