Title: These refs have done a terrible job around the basket
Post by: Detfan23 on March 12, 2008, 09:22:40 PM
Now it has worked against both teams, but I can't believe how bad the officials have been around the basket.  They are missing goal tends and feet stepping out of bounds constantly.  Maybe these guys have worked too much today.

They've missed a lot of goaltending calls of late against us.  Laing also knocked the ball out of bounds that was clearly going to be our ball.  And the announcers...good God.  That was Trevor with that great block at the end, not Trend.  We won 11 conference games Len, not 7.  Etc, etc.

It's tough to announce 4 games in a day and it shows.  Too many names, too many stats.

We overcame the Reggie Greenwood jinx.  Seriously, these guys cannot keep up with the game and they anticipate calls.  Luckily we won the foul gap tonight with some steely toughness.  We didn't take advantage of it, but the blown calls (blatant tips out of bounce called the wrong way), goal tending (again with this), and double bonus on both teams with more than 50% of the second half to go.

Does anyone notice that the refs never call five seconds on an in bound play when the behind team rolls the ball on the court and the guard delays picking it up to put in play?  I counted to seven+ on at least a couple of plays.

Actually - that rule is a little different than it used to be ...

Section 6. Throw-in
Art. 3. The thrower-in shall release the ball within five seconds so that the
pass goes directly into the playing court, except as provided in Rule 7-5.8.
Art. 4. The throw-in count shall end when the ball is released by the
thrower-in so that the ball goes directly onto the playing court.

-=-=-

I was taught the same as you - that the count doesn't stop until it is touched. But I think it changed a while ago (also not sure if this is NCAA only - or all levels).

The sad part about our buddy Elmore is that he only announced two games.  During last nights game and the Syr. game he could not stop talking about how SH's home-court advantage was going to be dangerous for us.

Anyone at the game last night notice a huge SH home court advantage as he claimed?   Just curious.

It sounded like a SH advantage in decibels over the tv.

And the 2 missed goaltending calls weren't even judgment calls.  I can see missing a goaltend on a block, but hands on the rim and slapping the backboard are so basic and blatantly obvious!

They didn't announce all 4 games. They never do in the BE tournament. Bilas, Raftery and McDonough did the 2 afternoon games. (edit- whoops that was already mentioned)

Not sure why they don't save that group for the primetime games, and use the B team in the afternoon when nobody watches....
