Poll
Question: What's MU's Big East Tourney record this season?
Option 1: 0-1 (exit round 1)
Option 2: 1-1 (exit round 2)
Option 3: 2-1 (exit round 3)
Option 4: 3-1 (lose championship game)
Option 5: 4-0 (win it all)

Good question.  I can't decide.

If we play the we should, we beat both Seton Hall and ND.  Aside from Harongody, I think we match up well with ND and will beat them if we come out and play with defensive intensity.  But its hard to see us beating Lville based on how our first 2 games against them went.  If we do face them, I think the 3rd time rule is in our favor.

actually it's not.. if there is such a thing as a "third time rule" then based on the past two seasons (2005-06 & 2006-07) the rule would say it is around 72.5% probable that Louisville will beat us again.  Of course, such a rule would favor us today against Seton Hall.

I was interested in what a "third time rule" would say about a team's chances at winning a third game against a team they split 2 previous meetings with by winning the first and losing the second (as in our case with ND if we get past Seton Hall).  So I ran the numbers for that too...
2005-06: 77 series this happened in and 38 times the team that won the first won the third too (49.4%).
2006-07: 79 series this happened in and 38 times the team that won the first won the third too (48.1%).
As such, and unfortunately, any such "third time rule" would not be a benefit to us past the first round.  All of our repeat opponents are in our half of the bracket so we are guaranteed not to be facing a team for the third time in the 4th round if we made it there.

How odd is that... according to Rosiak Crean has only faced an opponent thrice in the same season two other times since he has been at MU.  Here we are with a chance to bump that number up by three.. ALL IN CONSECUTIVE GAMES.

Very curious if any teams have ever played each other 4 times in a single season.  Could be done if they meet twice in the regular season (presumably conference foes), once in their conference tournament, and once again in a post season tournament.  I don't believe 5 would be possible since conference teams do not play each other prior to the conference season (scrimmages and exhibition games not withstanding although probably even with those taken into account too).

I saw the stats you posted in an earlier thread about the 3rd time rule and found it interesting.  I only think the 3rd time rule would be in effect if the two teams are evenly matched and won team one the first two.  Since I think we are much better than Seton Hall, I wouldn't think it would matter how many times we face them, we should win.  I think the 3rd time rule would apply slightly in our favor if we faced Lville as I would think Lville might take us for granted given how badly they beat us the first 2 games.  It might not result in a win, but a closer contest.
And yes, I did intentionally misuse one and won just to piss off IamMarquette
