Title: No play time for Brice?!?
Post by: GuyIncognito on March 04, 2008, 09:07:12 PM
So the game was not on TV where I'm at so I just watched it on ESPN gamecast, maybe I'm missing something.  My question is, with a blowout game such as this one, why didn't Brice even get in the game? Seems pretty unfair being senior night and all...

Crean called a time out to get a stoppage in play to get him in with 2:00 left

Sorry, like I said, I'm going off espn.com, which shows him as "Did not play." http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=30799
Regardless, I feel like he could have gotten a little more...

The chants for "WE WANT TOM-MY" were easily the loudest chants that night, and probably the loudest for a walk-on, ever.  Crean tried to put him in around 3:30 .. but the game went 3-4 possessions without a stoppage, so he finally called timeout at 2:00 to get him in there.

I was hoping for a timeout every MU possession.

I'm very relieved to hear that he played. When I saw the title of the post I thought I was going to read that TommyBrice didn't get any PT. That would have been a disgrace. When you consider the sacrifices that kid made over the years he more than deserves a few minutes of PT.

that was a joke.  crean should have called at TO with 5 or so minutes left and get all the seniors in there with maybe one of the guards.  it was embarassing to watch us be up 30 with james hoisting terrible shots.  ridiculous.  crean had a great opportunity to reward some hardworking kids with more than 2 minutes of garbage time.

With 7 minutes left he tried to substitute and play continued with no clock stoppage  so they had to call a timeout and that is what ate alot of the time up. The way the game was going one would have expected the clock to stop alot earlier.

WTF was DJ doing out there .. AND chucking up bombs?    No problem he is on the court, but he should have been helping his benchwarming teammates instead of chucking up prayers.

All those seniors should have gotten in the game with 8-10 minutes to play.  The game was over.  Don't give me that crap about "tuning up for Syracuse" .. Nothing FGCU could do could prep you for any BE team.

Should have had Brice, Trend, Hazel, Trevor out there for 8-10 minutes to end the game.

We had timeouts left.

All 4 should have started, and started again at the half.  As this was Florida Gulf Coast, they also should have played 'til 1-2 minutes then come out one at a time.

And if that happened, people would knock Crean for being an arrogant pretty boy.

Look, I understand the sentiment, and I also get that fat, middle aged people and drunk 20 year-olds love walk-ons, but you can't make it a mockery of the other team by starting a walk-on and a 4 minute player. There is a level of respect that has to be maintained for those in the coaching community.

WTF?  How would that make Crean a "pretty boy"?

Coobey's response is typically knee-jerk and needlessly defensive, however Crean does a better job than most with playing time for his walk-ons. There is no doubt about it. He always has. They know what the deal is when they sign on.

There's no way he could have started those 4 guys.

Agreed.  No way they start.  It'd be novel if they could start the 2nd half .. we're really only talking about Brice here, as the other players do get PT during real games.

But .. at the end of the game, under 10 minutes, up two dozen, would be completely appropriate .. no one would be critical of Crean for that.  Mostly, people would praise him for letting those kids play in front of their families at a time that meant the most.

So you classify my response as "knee-jerk" and "defensive" and then essentially agree with my point?
