I still have to go through the schedule. And may come to the same conclusions. But I hope the team doesn't lose every tough conference game as predicted minus UConn at home. Would be a bad sign for the direction of the program. That would essentially mean injury or poor coaching or our potential all Big East players are not really at that level or players 5-15 are non contributors. My hope is your picks represent the floor for this team. Anything worse and the pitch forks will be out for good reason.
You may end up being right. But boy I hope you aren't.
The caveat, is if you think the Big East is a top 3 conference this year. If that is the rational, it makes more sense.
I know I have to put my picks in. I'm not criticizing you at all. I think you are a very knowledgeable fan. I just hope you are wrong.

I don't know if Big East is a top 3 league, it certainly could be. But I do think they can get 7 teams in the tournament maybe even 8. St. John's and UConn are clearly a step above. I think DePaul, Butler, Seton Hall, and Georgetown are clearly a step below. I think the five teams between those two groups are very close together and will be home favorites against each other.
I'm also a very boring predictor. I tend to make picks based on who I think will be the betting favorite, then pick one upset win (UConn) and one WTF loss (@DePaul). Reality is almost always more messy.
I don't think people should get pitchforks out for a 21 win season, especially considering that it would be a 9 win improvement from last season. What will be interesting is if we end up in a play-in game. I'm not sure how fans will react
Quote from: TAMU, Knower of Ball on Today at 12:42:50 PMI don't know if Big East is a top 3 league, it certainly could be.
This made me curious, so I went to see what Bart Torvik projects as the top conferences this season. Here is the average Bart Torvik ranking for each of the major conferences plus the top mid-majors:
SEC: 34.81
B1G: 40.72
B12: 44.25
BEast: 49.55
ACC: 56.06
P12: 90.44
A10: 112.93
MWest: 127.8
WCC: 143.9
So Bart Torvik doesn't project the BEast as top 3...but that may not mean what it used to. The gap between the haves and have nots has never been wider. There are only 11 mid-major teams in the top 75 and only two in top 50 (#11 Gonzaga and #45 Grand Canyon). There are only 4 high major teams outside the top 100 (#101 Stanford, #104 Boston College, #105 Penn State, #109 Georgia Tech).
ETA: These rankings are also in flux because it doesn't appear like Bart Torvik is consistent in whether it counts players who are in legal battles to return for another year. For example, Colin Porter is included in our roster, but Filip Borovicanin is not included in Xavier's roster.

I like this but with a 13-7 conference record and a couple wins home or away vs Villanova, UConn and St John's. So 2-4 in those games. And an unexpected loss to a bottom feeder.
