EDIT: Sorry missed it in the recruiting thread.
I think new players deserve their own thread!

And the scholarship table finally has a 5th year designation
https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?page=scholarship
Welcome, not so young man.
If Colin Porter Can-Can stay eligible, I guess Anything Goes.
Back-up PG with tons of experience who can shoot the three, and won't impact signing players for next season.
I like it.
We'll have to wait on the outcomes of the various court cases to see if he'll be on the court when the games start. It just seems fair that these guys in the class that just graduated should be eligible since the four classes before it received the Covid exemption for a 5th season and now all classes after it have the benefit of the 5 in 5 rule. In any event, hopefully, welcome aboard Colin. Looks like a solid pickup to fill that backup PG slot.
Uhhh....BAM? Solid pick-up.
Nice! And Tower is singing old show tunes to celebrate getting a wish fulfilled that he mentioned once or twice -another guard.
I wonder if this late signing has anything to do with the time MU spent playing a guard short while in Vancouver. NJ had foul trouble, AS missed a game. Perhaps the coaches decided they couldn't go through a 30+ game season with only 3 guards.

Thats a very likely reality here. Guard depth is an obvious Achilles Heel for MU especially given Walker's shoulder rehab and lack of any D1 experience. All 3 guards are starting and I don't see much ball handling experience or prowess among the wing guys.
Nice! I agreed with tower that we needed more backcourt depth, and it looks like Shaka added a quality piece here. Looking forward to seeing Colin in a Marquette uni!

We are now in the uncomfortable position of rooting for the class of 2026 players we were formerly critical of.

Sure, on second thought though, as I noted earlier here there is a fairness issue for this group of players given the Covid exemption and the the new 5 in 5 rule. The '26 grads are rather left out of the benefit of that 5th season. Now, if a guy already signed a full NBA contract or a 2-Way contract, that would be an entirely different matter in my mind.
It's great that there will be more depth behind both Nigel and Adrien but I have no idea if this will stick.
I think we can make a few conclusions about MU's roster with this signing.
1. I was worried about backcourt depth and shooting. Apparently the staff was as well.
2. Nash Walker's recovery from injury might take a while for him to get on the floor, and he won't be playing as much PG
3. The competition for SF minutes between Nolan, DO, MPIII, and Alex just got more heated because Nolan won't be playing as much PG. I think DO and Alex will slot in more at PF to free up Royce as a small 5.
4. Shaka and staff are confident in Josh Clark being able to step up and play solid minutes, otherwise they would have prioritized grabbing a big.
5. Colton Crowdis is at least 2-3 years away from being able to contribute
Quote from: SchnitzelBoy on Today at 04:15:03 PM5. Colton Crowdis is at least 2-3 years away from being able to contribute
Crowdis was brought here as a practice player. I'm willing to bet he never makes any meaningful contributions outside of garbage time.
Which begs the question now that Porter is here - why didn't we use Crowdis spot on a PF/C?

This is how I feel as well. Only complaint is they haven't made a similar move at the 5.

Pass tha dro!!!
Since MU can only have 15 bodies in the future, there will probably a few will be leaving. Crowdis will be one of them with Hamilton since he might graduate would be the other. One SF might want to play somewhere as well. Hard to keep this many kids happy!

He's also a relatively low turnover guy. His ability to handle the rock and drain the trifecta could play Gargantuan dividends for MU. Not to mention alleviate some pressure on Nigel.

Because Shaka thinks Hamilton/Clark/Parham will provide adequate play in the 10-15 mpg that MU needs a backup 5?
AND/OR ...
Because there wasn't a decent 5 available who wanted to join our team for the $$$ Shaka had (or was willing to) allocate?
AND/OR ...
Because Shaka is bad at his job?
AND/OR ...
Because no matter what, Scoopers will find reasons to kvetch?

He reminds me of Diener or Mark Anglavar.

There are 40 plus PFs and Cs in the portal right now who are still not committed anywhere — and they'd come cheaper because, shocker, they're still looking for teams. And yes, several of them would be an upgrade over 18 and Clark.
Larry Olayinka is the obvious example. Ballard literally coached him, he's still uncommitted, and he'd be a far better use of a scholarship than burning it on a practice‑squad body. Pretty sure most of Scoop would agree with this analysis.
Shaka has his guy already.

My sources tell me that he is Porter Moser's nephew.

Was Shaka aware that any of those players would even be a possibility when he agreed to bring on Crowdis? I'm not disagreeing with you, just asking the question.

Zero clue what Shaka was thinking — none of us do. But given how the Porter situation played out, leaving that last scholarship open for an actual contributor instead of locking it up with Crowdis would've been the wiser move. Especially now, when portal additions come much cheaper and there are legit upgrades still sitting there.

I think this player impressed big time on the culture parts of it that pushed him over the finish line in terms of getting an offer. They need point guard depth but rather than over thinking how that compares to a big - I wonder if they just weren't really impressed with "this" guy in particular..
Let's not forget it's probably
50/50 on whether the kid even plays given the constant lawsuits, TROs and injunctions related to players in his situation. And ... if they list him at
5' 10", we all know he's closer to 5' 8.
That said ... he can probably be a decent backup PG for 8 to 10 minutes a game.
It also says to me that in Canada SS saw that he has a real issue in that spot, as the only other option is Nolan, who is obviously a 2 or 3.
Disappointed that Shaka would bring in one of these petulant babies who refuse to grow up and move in with their lives like those who came before them.
Anyone who bought RGV gear can have a nice bonfire as now Shaka is willing to blow up what he and the team spent the summer building.

I think we can all agree with this strong religious culture, as we all followed similar rules.

This thread is weird. Especially for one welcoming what will be a very useful piece of the puzzle.
