From Jad Abumrad (from Radiolab for those familiar). Jad's father was one of Dolly's physicians.
Goodbye, Dolly. She will be missed.

It's a tremendous loss and she'll be sorely missed. One of the few people that was universally respected and admired from all walks of life and across the political spectrum. I'm not sure there's anyone out there to pick up her mantle. May she RIP.

I teared up. And for the first time in his life, even our president managed to post something complimentary of the dead. Dolly unites us all.

Nice job, Kimo. Though I doubt it's the first time.
Dolly gave 600 mill to various charities based on the few things I've read.
My favorite Dolly Parton movie was Straight Talk.
Dolly Parton > Mother Teresa
RIP, Dolly. A true legend.

Why would she do that? She should have donated that money to politicians to get them elected to protect her wealth
Dolly one year older than me share the same birthday, January 19.

That's too bad. Mother Teresa wanted people to be poor and to suffer for Christ.

At least something good came out of Mother Teresa's PR campaign.

All these good deeds seem to be a desperate attempt to whitewash her dark past so the public will forget that she once conspired to poison Dabney Coleman

That only makes her more endearing.
There has been lots and lots of, VERY justified, reminiscing of her legacy as a philanthropist, a caring motherly figure (despite not having any children herself), and an overall great human.
But, almost shockingly, it demands remembering that as a musician/artist, she could absolutely RIP. Her stripped down performances on Carson are all fantastic. And this cover is just indescribably good...

Jack White did his fantastic Jolene cover last night in London as I would expect him too. I remember from my peak White Stripes/Jack White fanship days that he absolutely WORSHIPPED and adored her. It was her favorite cover of any of her songs and she wanted to do an album with him, which is so badass of her and would have been unreal, and I think the only reason it never got done was he was terrified and obsessed with it not being good enough for her and her legacy.

I'm reading a personal finance book in which the author recommended writing one's own
obituary.
His point was that folks will want to be remembered as a good parent, good spouse, good friend, kind-hearted person, etc. Hardly anyone will want to be remembered as "I earned a lot of money" or "I had the most expensive car."

She was a philanthropist unlike your heroes who want to kill manatees. And she donated to planned parenthood, so she's good.
