Title: Problem with the Walgreens on 16th & Wisconsin
Post by: Porky's Butthole on March 31, 2026, 07:44:42 PM
Does anyone know what the deal is with the Walgreens there?  The pharmacy (not the store) seems to have very sporadic hours and can be closed for days at a time on short notice without explanation.

Porky looked into it a little further and apparently that location is fairly low volume from a prescription perspective.  Porky suspects that has a lot to do with the fact that 70% of MU students grew up within a 2 hour drive of campus and probably still get prescriptions if they need them from their local pharmacies back home and just bring it with them to campus.

Porky's freshman son is from New York City so we have Porky Jr's doctor's office out east call in the prescription to that location while he's at school, but if that pharmacy isn't open, it's extremely inconvenient to have to have it transferred to another location on the east side or in the suburbs and for him to go all the way there to get it.  For whatever it's worth, there's another Walgreens on 2nd & Wisconsin right near Third St Market Hall and Porky tried to have the prescription transferred to that location which would have been easy enough but it turns out that location is store only and doesn't even have a pharmacy!

Porky reached out to MU Student Media about this to explore WTF is going on but in the interim, does anyone have any other suggestions on how to handle?  According to another Walgreens employee Porky spoke with who works at one of their east side locations, that location has been problematic for a while, but it seems the university isn't doing much about it.

"Reaching out to student media?" Are you serious?

Porky's needs to stop helicoptering and let Porky's kid figure it out.

From what Porky remembers, that's kind of a no go zone isn't it?  Perhaps things have changed, but it seems like while campus itself has gotten much better and looks much more like a campus than it did in Porky's day, the surrounding area around campus and even parts of downtown seems to have gotten worse. You can't even enter a bar on Water St anymore without being frisked and the cops have those blocks locked down on weekends.

In any case, Porky called the MU Health office this morning and they said they're aware of the issues with that particular Pharmacy location and with Walgreens in general since being taken over by a PE firm and suggested using the pharmacy at the hospital on 12th.  Porky thought that was for hospital patients only but apparently anyone can use it.
