I'm ignorant here. I think this tourney is now only going to be eight teams... what are the possibilities that Marquette plays in it? Do we know what has to happen? I can't follow the selection criteria/interplay with NIT, etc.. all I know is I'd love for MU to keep practicing and play in Sin City this April. Anyone have good insights that are not #FakeNews #Lies?
#BannerTime
Is this the FOX property? I would expect MU to be seriously considered bc of
1) FOX / Big East
2) Past success in recent years
3) a lot of your other non NCAA teams will see coaching changes. MU will be a rare "bad" team that has its coach and core returning players in tact.
The Crown was shortened from 16 to eight teams. The Big East gets only two bids.
It's very likely two are Seton hall and Creighton.
So, probably need some teams to decline to get an invite. Strong finish and a good showing in NY might help.
:-\
Or just win the Big East tourney and we don't have to think about The Crown!
I'd watch it if we went, but would prefer to just doom scroll portal news.

I think this year any games NJ, DO, AS, and RP can get together are beneficial

GE brings up a good point that we don't want anyone spraining an ankle in a season we aren't going to the Tournament. Should hope for a loss in R1 of the BET and head home. Put AS, NJ, and RP in bubble wrap until November.
Heck. Start that now.

Why play at all? Or practice?

You realize they play all summer right?

Yes. I'm making fun of GE's take that he wants us to lose ASAP in the BET because we don't want to get injured in a meaningless BET game.

I understand contract does not allow programs to decline

That's what I remember reading somewhere. And that ICE will enforce the rule.

There is no circumstance short of the most improbable run of all time through the Big East tournament that we would be invited to any post-season tournament.
Given our record this year, an invitation to any post-season tournament would be an embarrassment to the sponsoring organization. It also would be a prima facia indication that there's too many post-season tournaments.

You should see who was invited last year.

Based on our lack of progression from last season to this one, I'm starting to have my doubts.

Hermano dgies, not how it works for Crown

There would absolutely be articles about how far post season tournaments have sunk if a 10-22 Marquette team was playing somewhere.

Clearly they were focused on RGV, and who was atop the leaderboard for egbs. Basketball practice only comes after they collectively hit 10k on each.
Hamilton was on top of the egbs, so he was award the starting spot for half the season.

So, are you projecting that the next three games are lost before tipoff? ::)
UCONN sure. But the other two?

Man, If I even got the correct number of games left you should give me an award. That was two random numbers thrown together.

;D OK. You get the Scooper Dooper Award. DM me for the amount you owe me and an address to send the money to for this prestigious honor.

And yet I'm pretty sure some did last year. Indiana, Ohio State, & West Virginia all turned down the Crown.

And while we're at it, why wasn't Providence there when DePaul was?
Edit: oh overall record vs conf record? Another not good MU sign
OK... so even down to 8 teams in the prestigious Crown, we may have something to look forward to in the next couple of months besides the Wolves and Wild marching toward world championships??

I guess, if the walk is really really long
Skol!
I can't believe you guys are discussing participating in a made for TV joke of a
" tournament " that will gone in a few years!? Sheez
This would be the final indignity in an embarrassing season. I'd rather play in the NIT ( which is now mostly mid majors) or just go home.

Yes they should play in this tournament if invited.

But there is zero chance MU will be invited, based on overall record. So...moot point

I didn't bother to look at anyone other than DePaul from last year, but they were in it with 14 wins last year. If Marquette beats DePaul, Providence, and gets one BET win they're at 13. So while I don't think they will get offered, especially with a smaller field, I wouldn't say it's a 0% chance.
Edit: Did look more into it. Arizona State was in it with 13 wins last year and Colorado made it with 14 wins.

It's not just number of wins.
1) smaller field this year, only a couple big east teams invited.
2) This

3) This... We will almost certainly have the worst overall record in the BE
