Title: MU/Nova Game Thread
Post by: MuggsyB on February 10, 2026, 06:18:06 PM
We can attack the paint vs these guys.  Take care of the ball, lace some triples, and play with poise, confidence, and precision.  It's a tough task, yes.  But it's certainly doable.  LFG!

What you traditionally think of as boxing out is now a foul.  Holding position is the best you can do.

Parham a TO machine tonight.

MU needs to recruit to get stronger. Stevens, Gold and James do pretty well. Hamilton is not very good but he is physical. The rest of the team is pretty soft.

Not a bad response after starting the game at the 12 minute mark. Turns and terrible defensive rebounding are killing us. It's one of those slow down while also up the intensity situations. Let's see how we finish the half.

Refs, refs, refs.....went both ways. If Nova made free throws, not even close.

Nigel on those three possessions under two minutes. Turnover, missed three, turnover.  Ballgame. He dribbles way too much, no passing. 8 turnovers?

Other was MU up 9, MU does it usual double teams, player kicks it out for wide open threes by Perkins.  Three possessions in a row.  Ballgame.

Lost because of Nigel down game, Royce cramped late after dominating all game, Chase/Ben total nonfactors for the first 30 mins, and bad refereeing. Not the worst thing by any means. Nova are good.

I also know the end-of-game shots have been poor but this one was way different than the others, when you're down 3 and have to avoid the intentional foul. Of course it's gonna be hard to get a good 3 look, inherently much more challenging than just attempting a shot at all in a tie game

Nope, free throws no matta

Quote from: nyg on Today at 08:47:28 PMRefs, refs, refs.....went both ways.

Ballgame.

Poor coaching. Poor defense and as usual no shot to end the game.  How do you give wide open corner 3's when you are up 9 ?

Another last-minute failure. Is this a lack of direction from inadequate coaching or is it a gag job by the guys on the floor?

Quote from: Zog from Margo on Today at 08:50:27 PMWatching it live, I didn't think Askew had both feet down out of bounds when he caught the pass on the baseline. If he didn't, it should have been a line violation. Maybe I was mistaken.
I also thought the pass to Askew looked odd. Refs definitely let Villanova get away with a lot down the stretch and they needed every bit of it.

It makes sense Shaka doesn't work on end of game situations since we have major issues just playing 39 minutes of high major basketball.

I believe next year will be better.

It's lack of Senior leadership. Neither Ben or Chase can create a shot for themselves and the young guys look to them for direction.

Chase has been a total zero in his Senior season. Ben isn't far off.

1) Give up on the defensive traps and double teams.  We don't have the athletes to force turnovers and give up so many open looks.

2) will anyone be surprised when Chase is busted for throwing games?

3) parham is a taller, more physical, yet slightly slower version of Lazar

4) how many times do we slow down the ball with 4-5 minutes left and with a lead?

I thought Shaka did a good job overall, but picking up Lewis that high down the stretch was a big mistake. No one could stay in front of him over that distance.
