Let's get that winning streak started again (or at least another W). With home games vs. Butler and DePaul still to come, there is distinct hope that MU avoid finishing last in the league. Fire up the deflections and rebounding and MU can finish ahead of 3-4 teams. Which is another way of saying the bottom of the Big East is absolute trash.
Great ambitions!
I went to a Dominican HS-Fenwick-in the Chicago burb of Oak Park. Even though it was many decades ago, I remember the Dominicans well but not fondly. I would love to punch that creepy Dominican mascot but A) I would be punching a student, who would probably then beat the crap out of me and B) I'd wind up in the slammer. I'll settle for a win over Providence, but considering what they did to St. Johns, Creighton and almost did to UCONN, it is a tall order.
I think there is benefit to finishing last in the league.
Last in the league would absolutely demand change.
7th or 8th place could allow for "we have seen some growth, let's just tweek it."

I'm not sure where 3,4 or 5 wins would land us in the standings, but if that doesn't show or motivate Shaka to make changes, he's no longer the man for MU.
IMO, Shaka has seen the light, will change course and is our best option to restore the program.

It's too bad finishing last won't get us the first pick from the Portal. Of course, Shaka would trade it for the rights to a couple of zero star big man prospects who weren't offered by the low majors in their own region.

I'm one of Scoop's fossils, so '62-'66. Fenwick actually had a priest-Father Berrigan- whose title was Disciplinarian. One time when our entire class was kept after school for some infraction by a couple of guys, we sat there silently with Berrigan sternly glowering over us. I had a dentist appointment and, feeling kinda porky that day, raised my hand, told him about the appointment, and asked if he could just slap me around for a bit and then let me go. The class roared with laughter, and even Berrigan laughed. Then he let us go. ;D

As I said, it is an opinion, no evidence yet. I based my opinion on the body of his work as a head coach. I truly believe he is the same driven and competitive person who rose to the highest levels of college basketball.
I don't think it serves him, the players or MU well to publicly reveal what the off season plan is. I'd expect the exact same public facing message if he's 100% in to change as he would be if he's 100% committed to staying the course. Thus nothing can be pointed to as definitive.
I could be wrong and MU will be in the market for HC, and MU will be okay. I just wouldn't bet on it.
I could resurrect my game recaps for this one just so I can use the thread title 'Err Friar'

Line opened at Marquette -1.5. Providence should be favored, in my opinion, but I also have a feeling Marquette wins this one. Friars haven't been great on the road and we're due for a surprise W.

Gotcha. Transparency and unwillingness to admit that he has to change somehow are not important
Marquette is favored by 1.5 On FOX and ESPN
Hopeful for a W with James, Stevens, Owens, Phillips, Parham and Clark getting majority of PT. There's always hope, right?

Strange. Providence took UCONN to OT, beat SJU, and also beat Creighton. Three teams that had
no problem taking us down. And we are -1.5. Go figure.
Before beating Creighton. Providence had lost their last 3 games I believe. Beat them again!
I bequeath the recap. For this game, someone can be heir Friar.

He's in the middle of the season. It's been crap but who wants a coach that will throw his current players under the bus by saying he should have replaced them in the portal and effectively give up on the rest of the season? Not me. Shaka has been a good coach at MU until this season. I think we'll see roster and staff changes after the season. Besides. I'm not convinced the MU job would attract anyone better.

The win saved my 1-1 trip. MU had won 14 straight games I attended. Then we lost to UConn on NMD last season and fell apart at DePaul on Friday.
Glad Nigel & Co. halted that losing streak at 2 for me!

Does anybody know the scoop on Jones? It looked to me like Stevens was handling the ball more than usual. Are rthey groomming him to play point when James is out instead of Norman?
