Did we have a time-out?  Gotta get a better shot than that with 8  secs to go.

Good half minus our defensive glass and finding Gunn.  Have to box out with force and leverage.

MU has 3 timeouts remaining.  I cannot remember a coach burning a second timeout at the end of a half.

By rule, yes but the issue is the 5 year clock. Now, based on his history, it's not by the book easy like Otule to get a Five Year Rule waiver, because we ran our mouth and said last year he didn't play even though he was capable. But, likely in this day and age it would be granted. 2 mas anos.

Offense was pretty good, 48% from field and 41% from three and yes free throws hurt them. 5 for 13, including two front end misses.

Defense, yuck.  Shaka did not adjust on Gunn going off in first half.  Maybe a box and one, face guard him to preventing him from getting the ball?  Gunn was not running off screens or anything.  Nope, nothing.

14-0 runs to start the half, not a good thing.  Ally oops and dunks to begin half was ugly. No defense and Deapul destroyed them on offensive boards.

Actually watched Hamilton close tonight.  The guy cannot hold onto a basketball. As of now, he is your starting center next year.  Ouch. Gold was hurting and after he went 2 for 3, sat back down.  That hurt.

Very bad loss.

They've been weak since before the Dayton game.

It's pretty simple:

Half of the roster needs to depart to allow for more experienced, skilled and talented players to come in.  If coaching staff is unable or unwilling to accept that, it's time to make a change.

Being unwilling to accept that reality is malpractice on a coaching and administrative level.

Gross. So f'ing gross. IMO worse than anything I've ever seen. Dukiet teams sucked but they went from shyte to really shyte. Shaka saw the weather report(ice berg dead ahead) and decided to proceed and increased speed... What a waste...

Is it possible that Shaka let this happen in propose to get more money for players goo going forward?

If we bounce back next year with a competitive team we might see the brillance of this year...(trying to find a silver lining here)

No just dont think they want to leave. guessing dont want a big pay cut. Especially bcause people on here say pay scales with seniority at this program. The absurdity of of a horizon league player like Tre, who probably couldnt find a professional gig anywhere in the world, making 500k next year is hilarious.

Shaka.....just say this is on me.....And I have to re-evaluate my whole thoughts on how to run a program....

This is too funny.....

Shaka's after game press conference...
Shaka Credit DePaul for their aggressiveness in the second half. We made a run for them but did not rebound and get to loose balls. The way we played in the first half with aggressiveness. Second half we were not defense focused as much. We had 20 assists for the game. We got a lot of good looks in the second half that we did not hit. Our guys did a good job initally. They made adjustments. OIffense was not the problem. Rebounds and loose balls were the key to the game. Our defense waned in the second half before the offense did. Gunn put up the gaudy number but Blocker kept getting downhilll. NJ Benson went 8-9. A lot of offensive boards. We did not rebound as well as we should. NJ. Maybe he was rushing it or were not in the place we should be. He's a freshman He makes freshman mistakes. He is going to do great things as well. On the road you have to hang your hat on defense and we need to do a better job. Gunn was in a rhythm from the beginning of the game. You have to make him drive. This was the best environment for DePaul since I have been there. Students were good. Thanks for Marquette fans that came down. Good atmosphere. we have to get more aggressive and need to get tougher. We need to get more 50-50 balls. I did not think we did a good job against a zone. They did the same thing last year and we won in OT. They doi a good job. Ben looked better. Hasn't been able to practice or play at SJU. Asided from the injury, he will be better next game. Good for him to see some threes going in.

Read my original prediction post....The first half....The Blah Blah Blah....The more BS....Gold was our "stroke" player....

Line for line.....

I did miss the give DePaul credit crap.....

You have absolutely no respect for Shaka. Interesting.

Maybe your right and Shaka has abandoned high level competition.  Everyone is guessing right now. We'll find out the truth in 90 days.

You don't think red shirt players aren't evaluating whether to stay or look elsewhere
If next year begins to look more like the same I know I would be looking around for a more successful program if I were on that bench. Pride might be mean something more than a paycheck if you are a competitive person.

I sure hope you are correct, but unless Shaka pushes guys overboard, would those guys leave on their own? My pessimism says the only open spot is Lowery's, and Shaka probably assesses a guy from UW-Parkside is good enough for that roster spot.

Shaka will eventually get it.  Almost every team that has beaten MU has had portal players including Depaul, who have five of their top six players being portal players.

Consider yourself lucky. It would have been easier to watch if we face-planted in the first half so I didn't get my hopes up for a win.

Finally watched it.  Very encouraging first half, at least on offense, same old problems on D.

DePaul just took it to us to start the second.  Our overall lack of physicality was very noticeable once they started bullying us.

DO's best offensive game so far by a mile, too bad he's a mental case on D.

A little blurb in the Chicago Tribune today about DePaul and the MU game. I concur that the student section for DePaul was the best I ever saw at a game.

On Friday, one day after the news of the indictment broke, DePaul beat Marquette 80-75, its first win in the series since March 2022. That stretched the Blue Demons' home winning streak at Wintrust Arena to three games, all in the Big East. It's a small number but significant given the Blue Demons were just 4-16 in conference play last season, Holtmann's first. They are now 11-7, 3-4, with two of the conference losses to No. 2 Connecticut.

After the game, Holtmann posted on social media: "Highest student attendance in the history of Wintrust and one of the largest crowds!!! Thank you!!! First round on me at Kelly's Pub near campus. See you in 35 min!"

He kept his word. At 12:52 a.m., DePaul posted a video on social media of Holtmann sitting on a bar, announcing he would buy the first round for students and then passing around a bucket of beer.

On Monday, senior guard CJ Gunn was named Big East player of the week after he scored a career-high 31 points, including seven 3-pointers, against Marquette. Gunn is averaging 14.5 points per game on 45.3% shooting.
