Title: Portal
Post by: Aircraftcarrier on January 14, 2026, 09:49:18 AM
Not using the portal at all puts major stress on high school recruiting. Can only have very few misses. The second problem and maybe the bigger one is you are always going to be playing against older teams.  With that said I am not in the complete know as some people. Can Marquette compete financially? Are there resources there to be able to field a top 20 team?

Not sure if this has ever been discussed. Looking forward to the insights.

Good thing this has never been discussed here.

Evidently, the money has been put on the table for Shaka to use.  Shaka has said "No thank you" to the money.

Correct. But hey, great showing last night by the projects Shaka keeps around in lieu of pipedream transfers.

Correct.  Hopefully he changes course this offseason.  The roster needs a lot more talent.

At this point I'm invested in seeing Caedin Hamilton's ceiling and floor as a player.

Donny Marshall thinks he's got tremendous upside! Wishes Caedin carried himself as the best player on the floor more often.

Marquette was voted the #3 Coaching Job in The Big East by other Head and Assistant Coaches.

However, while recruiting base and facilities were a major factor when He did a similar exercise in 2018, He said now it's obviously financial resources (NIL) that are paramount.

Reasonable minds can differ as well as well imbedded moles in the program the last 2 Years
Praising Caedin according to John Rothstein.
Have been to practices where They build up Caedin. He does walk with his head held high and smiling compared to Josh. The Moles have been wrong for 2 years. I love Caedin as a person. If we start winning with Caedin I will be happy and thrilled.  But wish we used the portal for a center.

Aside from the totality of suck on our roster, nothing really made me upset yesterday aside from Caedin Hamilton jogging up the court as Zuby blew past him for a loose ball and fast break dunk. I expected to lose, but for a guy that should be fighting just to keep a roster spot let alone rotation spot to be jogging up the court was just a shame to see.

I don't know if Fanta really knows but last night at one point said MU doesn't have huge resources to offer guys and compete, thus the Shaka model. If this true or BS I have no idea.

I chuckled when I heard that. Fanta should stick to his area of expertise: orange and grape soda.

I know, but he is supposed to be on the know on BE teams. I know about 8MM+ was what it took to get rid of Woj, and I thought no one would do it. But 8MM might not be enough to fund the regular roster + 2-3 top portal guys. So I'm not so sure if MU really has the resources to get into a bidding war, because that is what it takes.

Oh, I'm not sure either. Nor do I think Fanta knows that, say, Seton Hall has the resources but Marquette doesn't.

New Portal rules.  Window doesn't open until after the tournament.  15 day window, down from 30.  Exemptions allowed due coaching change.

Is this only for entering the portal? Or does everyone have to be in and out in this timespan?

What happens if a coach leaves in May or June after an NBA team hires a college coach? The portal opens for those players to leave, but there's no one for the new coach to be able to add? Definitely need some further explanation.

There's minimal change. The portal is open now.

This is just the notification window for the easy pass for immediate eligibility. Instead of 30 days a bit earlier to notify, it's now 15 days and just after the championship game. No biggie. This is simply NOTIFICATION. Timeline for committing to a school is wide open - not subject to the notification window. Plenty will get drawn out.

Coach leaves, kids can get the easy pass. Same as it is now.

The question is whether an easy pass will actually be needed in the future.

Ice cold Grape Crush in deposit glass bottle was a huge treat as a kid.

I laugh every time I hear an announcer obviously just repeat Shaka's overly positive player analysis.

The two week portal window will be crazy fun. MU should be lease out a team of private jets right now to get recruits to MKE on a moment's notice.

There's not a two week portal window.

A kid who wants the easy pass for immediate eligibility just needs to notify his current school during those 15 days. Just sets the wheels in motion for a potential transfer, that's it.

Right? If Fanta doesn't think MU has the resources to have a top half BE program, he's doesn't know squat.

If in some bizarre reality Fanta was right, MU would be wise to move to a less expensive coach and allocate more to talent.

correct. Two weeks to put one's name in the Portal. Football has the same (Jan 2-16).

Saint Thomas runs its record to 15-4 with a NET much better than Marquette's with a 91-80 road win. Nolan Minessale scored 27 Points. Nick Janowski scored 32 Points.
