Title: Marquette Olympians
Post by: Billy Hoyle on January 07, 2026, 10:09:51 AM
I guess we're a speedskating school now.  Congrats to Emery Lehman on making his fourth Winter Olympics to represent the US! Our 7th speedskating Olympian.

I think there is at least one more MU student or grad completing in the US trials too.

That used to be the case back when Petit was the national Olympic training facility.  I remember at least two skaters I went to school with that trained there.

Assume it still is a major training center?

After the MU/UConn game NBC went immediately to US Olympic speed skating qualifying at Petit.

I think a lot of speedskating training has moved to the Olympic oval in Utah when it was made the new HQ like 15-20 years ago, compared to the 90s, but there is still a significant long track presence at Petit.

I went to his HS as well, according to my buddy's younger brother he was insanely fast as a young hockey player so they pulled him out and boom speed skating.
