Title: 8 Big East Teams
Post by: NavinRJohnson on March 01, 2008, 08:43:49 AM
Looking extremely difficult at this point. Syracuse would appear to have the best shot at being the 8th, but for them to make it, may come at the expense of a team like Pittsburgh, who has not done much winning lately and has games left @Ayr and @WVU. If they win those games, they all but eliminate Syracuse (especially after we beat them next week), and possibly WVU. If they lose those games, they are on the bubble at best.

Villanova appears to have a shot, but ot sure looks as if they are going to be .500 in conference at best.

At this point, I would say 6 is more likely than 8, and 7 is probably where it will end up, but it may require someone to catch fire in NY for that to even happen.

Lunardi's latest (2/29) has 7 teams in, with Pitt as an 8 seed, and Syracuse and Villanova out, but in the "Last 8 team out".  So, it could still be 8 or an outside shot at 9.

With the bubble teams still scheduled to play one another, there is no way 9 is going to happen. My point is, for Syracuse in particular to make it, they almost necessarily knock WVU and possibly Pitt out. For WVU and/or Pitt to make it, they almost necessarily knock Syracuse out.

As much as we helped ourselves the other night, we gave Villanova's chnaces a serious kick in the nuts.
