Quote from: JTJ3 on December 06, 2025, 12:52:29 PMStephens starting. Zaide off the bench.
Interesting.
Presumably related to the comments Coach made after Tuesday's game.
Nigel dribbling and holding the ball way too long. Move the basketball.
Sweet Jesus. Make a lay-up.
Let's go now. Maybe that gets Chase off.
Go strong Caedin! Fk.
Zaide look different
Sean launching a contested 3 off the dribble is not what u want
Good stretch of D. Like Zaides haircut.
The defense hasn't been bad. Offensively we are just jacking mostly contested 3's.
And as usual missing them all
Solid start, if we can't make shots, we need to keep defending. Good effort on that end so far
Interesting stat they just said: MU #1 in shots at the rim. #342 in fg% at the rim.
Good attack by Ben. Let's wake the f up and drain some buckets.
Royce just needs to slow down, plant, abd finish.
1 for 11. That's a problem.
Stupid quick 3 from parham
Crazy we cannot make a shot.
We'd be crushing it if we shot 25%
MU. The team that couldnt shoot straight. Gooollllddddbrick with a couple early bricks.
This team probably gonna finish bottom 50 in the nation in 3 pt shooting
This isn't bad shooting, it's a complete and utter disaster.
Wide open corner brick.
Open 3s are there. Hit them, boys.
Ross is 2 for 4? What's the rest of the team?
Incredible how bad at shooting this team is
Getting good shots
On pace for 14 pts at the half.

Exactly. It is so depressing how poor our shooting is.

Get the ball to our shooters!!!

I honestly think we are the worst shooting team in the nation
I like some of those guys but I'd be ok with a total reset next year starting at square 1 with 0 players if possible lol.
This is pathetic.
Playing well. Just cant make an open jumper.
We're 2-16 and have twice as many shots. Completely inexcusable ineptitude.
Yeah. Were playing well except for the shooting. If the shots drop well win.

True knowledge overflows from you, Dung Willie
We're 2-16. They have only 8 shots.
Ridiculous.
Have the players vision been tested?
How does Ross even make those damn
Doing a good job on the glass.
The defense actually looks about the best it has all season. So there's that.
Bout to get blown out if we don't make some shots. Chase was fouled.

Well it was interesting for 9 minutes. This team is just something else man. Rout is on
MU 1-10 from 3, 3-20 overall
I'd call a time-out right now.
Must be a tough shooting background.
Caedin!
Does this team get any shots up during practice?
Need a time-out.
God damn, I hate Wisconsin. Still early
Waited too long. It was clear as crystal.
Well. This is tracking like every other game so far.
Just brutal to watch this. Offense is a joke. Just praying Hamilton isos can get us back in it. Can't watch
If you can't make any shots, especially point blank, your defense will break down.
Somebody must explain what type of offense they run besides dribbling around?
Shaka should call a time out after first 2 minutes of game to calm the team down.
We are already 10+ points down.
Ugly so far, likely to get worse.
Got late early due to missing every shot. No idea how every 3 pt shooter has regressed on wide open shots.
I dont understand how Caeden can be so bulky and have zero ability to impose will.
Need a big run here out of the TO.
What a dumpster fire
Hamilton starting the spin cycle for no reason and before any contact was initiated is hysterical. Comically bad player.
we need a new shooting coach. Nobody can shoot long, mid range or layups.
Quote from: #UnleashNigel on December 06, 2025, 01:28:07 PMWell. This is tracking like every other game so far.
Yes. And this is self-inflicted or most of these guys are not high D-1 players. It's hard to imagine shooting this badly frankly. I thought we were around #225-250 but we may be closer to #300.

Nope. Drive into traffic and get stuck.
Well done.
Any baseball team would have fired the hitting coach two weeks ago. Gold can't even hit a free throw.
Of course he bricks the FT. Smh.
Good drive from RP.
Problem is now, UW is up with a good lead. They can play without feeling pressure. All the pressure is on MU.
Can't go under on Blackwell.
Chase getting torched
Blackwell is embarrassing them !!
But, MU is going under every screen.
Well done Shaka.
This is the first time I've seen Sean Jones play this season. Woof.
Despite Blackwell on a heater, I like most of the offense in past few mins
We're waiting too long to kick and then move the ball.
Wisconsin in the kohl center always has some red hot shooter putting the game way in the first half. Last time it was some white dude. Today Blackwell

Sad part is, ball movement looks pretty decent.

Laphanso Ellis is right. This should be like a 2-6 pt game.
Whelp, I'm a generally positive guy, but we are awful. We may pull it out, but I'm kinda upset now. I know, who cares what I think, but it's pretty embarrassing. I believe in the long term vision, but this much pain in the short term ain't fun. Cheers everyone, Off to the parade!

seriously, we need a new shooting coach. You can't win if you can't shoot. Some of these kids shot better in high svhool. What goes wrong at Marquette?
This absolute disgraceful season continues. Poorly coached undisciplined helter skelter offense that can't shoot and apparently can't defend as well. Best to hibernate from this debacle of a season.

It's weird that we're down 12. It should be a lot closer. I like what Ive seen from the offense, especially Royce, Nigel, and Ben.
Rough stretch for SJ. He's still pressing and getting sea legs.
Chase is a mixed bag. They could key in on him and pack paint due to shooting. I like his aggressiveness and dislike his Oso-esque push shot. Get to rim.
Hit a few shots to start the half along with a kill and it's anyone's ballgame.
When you have two trips down the floor and lose the ball on a FT attempt and then just fall while trying to dribble it's hard to expect much.
I know nothing about Marquette's new Prez. Does he understand the importance of men's basketball to this school? Not just the history, the pedigree, but its importance in funding the overall athletic program? Or, how applications increase in correlation to basketball success? The AD, Broeker. I'll assume he does understand these things. But, how aggressive is Broeker? A yes man, or does he have a spine? Yeah, Shaka is back next year. But if it's more RGV, more of this garbage, we'll officially be in DePaul's neighborhood. Never ever thought we'd decline like this.

There have been a number of plays like that that are just inexcusable. Especially, given we are supposed to be a defense focused team.
Something is way off with this team, and it has to start at the coaching.
Quote from: Daniel on December 06, 2025, 02:47:21 PMThis game is an embarrassment for a D1 team. Yikes hard to believe we are this poor at shooting and defense. I did not think we'd be bad this year. Lots of pieces, deep, etc. But.... Whew

This team looks more unorganized, and the team (and coach) clueless than at any time under Wojo.
Fortunately, it's a young team and early in the season. But they need to have a come to Jesus meeting to make sure it doesn't spiral with the youngsters.
My contention regarding our defense is that as awful as it can be, our ineptitude on offense contributes to it.
Hahahahahahaha Caedin
Hamilton is just so bad on both ends.
Get Hamilton off this damn team
Holy crap Hamilton
That Blackwell highlight package just illustrates the fact that this team is either dumb as sh!t, extremely poorly coached, or most likely both
Is Hamilton aware he's allowed to dunk?
You have gotta be shiiiting me Caedin!!!
Get Hamilton off the floor. Now.
At least Headache Smith and Jim Sweeney could shoot.
Shaka's assessment of Caeden will have me questioning every decision he ever makes again.
Unbelievably poor fundamental defense.
Nice d Gold 🙄
You could throw whiskey barrels on the court and they would defend better than Marquette
At least this has become comedic entertainment at this point
The fact that anyone involved with this team would ever think "hey, #18 is open let me get him the ball" further illustrates my previous point.

You can't convince me that Hamilton offers more than Clark even if they both suck
We're all too focused on the score and not the great friendship that will be shared on the busride home.
Too bad Lowery got injured. He was finally putting a good stretch together- three and couple finishes at the bucket
Our team seems to believe that the best way to play defense is to give up open 3s. I guess that's what we learn from playing against each other in practice.

I dislike that I felt there were a ton of positives to build on and they still got destroyed.
Growth is happening. But this sure isnt fun at the moment.
Takeaways:
Positive
- Royce is making strides. Liked the game from him.
- Adrien is a stud. Easy to project as a future 3 and D stud.
- NJ looked good. Ive been critical of him getting lost in traffic. He stepped the F up. Next step: Show me 3s to open the lane
- Josh got to a lot of balls in his few mins, altered some shots, and--while raw--looked like he was fighting out there. Nowhere near a finished product, but his length and motor were impressive as hell.
Neutral
-SJ is pressing. But he got better-ish as it went along.
- Tre. Acted as a calm presence. A few good passes.
-Ben--wish you hit those 3s earlier.
- Zaide was more "on" today than off. Bummer on the 3 he missed on the transition.
Negative
- Chase--you are supposed to be a leader. Lead. You can't have lapses and let your emotions screw momentum.
- Time to end the Caeden experiment as a starter. Super timid out there and behind on rotations for D. For all we heard about hook shots, we watched zero happen today.

Yes, because wasting a year of eligibility on a bad team when the players are not ready is extremely dumb. I'm not sure what's so difficult to understand about that.

And again, I'd usually agree with you 100%! My argument is that Shaka in his time at MU has shown to be a downright dreadful talent evaluator by and large - Ellis, Itejere, Amadou, Norman, Hamilton, Jones, Owens, Gold. So rather than have a guy hold a scholarship who's completely terrible for 3 years (Norman, Hamilton), 2 years (Ellis, Itejere, Amadou), he would be well-served to get a read on it sooner than later. My opinion.
Let's take away our piss poor shooting probs for a moment. What exactly was our strategy today on both ends of the floor? I have no idea what Chase and most of our guys were trying to do on the perimeter vs Blackwell & Boyd. And then there is our "help". Why on God's green earth would you soft help in the paint and leave Blackwell wide open in tbe corner? This happened like 4 times. Our bigs suck helping at the rim and our perimeter guys are not thwarting the dribble drive at all. And it's not like Whisky has Iverson and Wade out there. Roadie blew by Chase 3 times. Chase was also torched on screens and step-backs. Completely off balanced and not using his quickness or physicality. I get I'm picking on our best player, bur he was not there mentally today imo.
The other thing that absolutely drove me up the wall today were decisions off the bounce in the paint. Sometimes there were 3 guys sagging. Move the fking basketball, and immediately. Especially if you're never going to take a 6-10 footer. We overdribble constantly and have very little player movement. And if guys are hesitant? That's death. You're never going to win being afraid.

Except I don't think what you're proposing gives him any kind of read whatsoever. It's setting those players up to fail. Obviously, agree to disagree but I don't see any value whatsoever in making that kind of decision.
The staff needs to look in the mirror and do an honest self-evaluation.
Where are they falling short in recruiting and why? Where did they fall short in development and why?
Perhaps the success they had with the development of the previous core has clouded their judgment a bit, which is understandable. That's human nature.
But how quickly do they self-evaluate and rectify potential shortcomings?
And then some of it is just going to be the nature of recruiting and development.

Haven't you realized that after four plus years that Shaka's offense is if the three point shot is there, take it. He has stated repeatedly, he has no problem with it. Today they were 9 for 29 and those stats were saved by the second team hitting three for four at the end. Live or die. His problem is that he has not recruited/portalled anyone who can actually shoot the three on a consistent basis. A lot of those misses today and in past games this year were wide open. Wisky makes their wide open. When not shooting threes, Ross and James just dribble around the three point line, no passing. Not going to change.
Shaka's defense is aggressive and double teams the ball, bring the bigs out to double and be very handsy. That leads to doubled player kicking out for shot, doubled player passing inside while MU big out front and excessive fouls on reach ins. Wisky exploited all of the above. Not going to change.

Shaka's defense is aggressive and double teams the ball, bring the bigs out to double and be very handsy. That leads to doubled player kicking out for shot, doubled player passing inside while MU big out front and excessive fouls on reach ins. Wisky exploited all of the above. Not going to change.
That's a good point to make almost a total green light for his guys to chuck up three balls to their hearts content, yet rarely is shooting ability one of our recruits strength or even 2nd best skill? What kind of idiot does that??
Shaka played 11 guys today. Owens didn't get in the game. If Lowry, Hamilton, et al. are misses, what does that make Owens? I know no other school wanted Hamilton. Were Owens, Sean Jones, Lowry, Gold, etc highly sought after recruits?
And why run an offense that gives everyone the green light for the 3 when no one on the team can shoot the 3?

True, but we're not exactly lighting it up from 2 either.

even Tower finds nothing to be unrealistically positive about
Didn't watch it and I'm glad I didn't waste those two hours. This team is Dukiet-terrible.

Owens was sick and didn't travel with the team.

Yes, but I was referring to the disconnect between how he wants to play vs. the kind of players he's bringing in.

Because that is his system, even when he had decent shooters, including 4 NBA players, three of whom could actually make shots. It's just not this year. Just go back to NCAAT:
2022 as #9 seed against NC. 8 for 31
2024 as #2 seed against NCST 4 for 31
2025 as #7 seed against NMEX 11 for 30
Over 30 threes a game. Didn't work out.
Yeah, really not much to watch the rest of this season. We can wake up in 11 months and see if Shaka:
1) brings in talent that can actually make 3's and layups
2) adjusts his system to the talent he actually has
3) is coaching at Maryland-Baltimore County after going 0 - 20 in the BE this year
Quote from: AlienWarrior on December 06, 2025, 03:10:32 PMThis absolute disgraceful season continues. Poorly coached undisciplined helter skelter offense that can't shoot and apparently can't defend as well. Best to hibernate from this debacle of a season.
The issue isn't the offense. It generates plenty of good looks. It's the disconnect between the offense and the players abilities to shoot. Changing the offense won't help a bit.

I have a t-shirt that shows I'm a municipal champion buddy.
Your brother in law was on my team. We made fun of you at the bar afterwards.
