Let's GOOOOO!!!  It's time to get back on track and subdue Dayton quickly.  A win is beyond vital.

The entire team looks scared to shoot the basketball.  We've passed up like 10 in rhythm 3 looks.  Just catch it and shoot with confidence, its not difficult.

I believe in Shaka.

This might be the worst Marquette team I've seen since I became a diehard in 1989. The team lacks talent, toughness, poise, awareness, and hustle.

How did Shaka let this happen?

Dayton zone, knows MU can't shoot

Shaka's defense philosophy of agressive defense. Gold coming out again to three point line, Dayton then passing inside for easy buckets. MU getting turnovers, but matching Dayton with their turnovers.  Dayton turnovers resulting in layups.

Offense brutal, James and Ross just dribbling around. 13 points 11 minutes in.  A lot of time left, but not good.  Every player

Yes, but then MU no advantage.

Dayton turnover, Loery can't handle pass, turnover
Dayton turnover, Ross falls down, turnover
Dayton turnover, missed three
Dayton missed shot, missed three
Dayton turnover, Norman missed layup
Ben Gold turnover
Dayton foul, Lowery miss
Gold miss three, Lowery foul

Big change there, last 10 possessions, just ugly last four minutes MU could have went up big, blew it.

Four points, including two free throws in last six minutes. That's right, one field goal and two free throws in last six minutes.  MU was up four at the time

NBA bound Gold has zero points, two rebounds and three turnovers, all resulting in points. Needs to have better half.

There is no reason for optimism at the moment. The defense is so bad. You can't overcome this level of incompetence defensively combined with the turnovers.

We force a turnover and immediately run the other way and give it back. When we went up 5 we should have actually ran an offense.

I'd hate to single out one guy but that was the worst half of basketball I've seen from Ben Gold in some time.

Maybe Shaka needs to switch to a zone after 10-15s of man to man pressure that creates some turnovers, because that switch out to oblivion with no help/communication is abysmal.

Also, proud of Chase for getting after his teammates and showing fire.
Shaka should've never taken him out at the 6 min mark, lead was gone in no time.
Not smart, and a mistake he wouldn't make in years past

Marquette was rolling two years ago - winning and playing a fun style of play. shaka raised Marquettes profile and it was a great game atmosphere.

Given that momentum, how did Shaka not hit on bigger recruits? His approach to develop talent should have made us a destination.

What happened? Is his weakness identifying talent which is compounded by his stubbornness to not take transfers?

I'm all for Shaka approach but it requires him to bring in the right players. His junior and sophomore classes question his ability to do this. Those players lack of development also raise major questions.

Game tied with 40 to go in regulation

Lowery airball
James turnover
Not getting shot off in 18 seconds

OT
Down two
Hamilton misses front end
Hamilton screen foul with ball
MU scores 3 points in five minutes on James three

Ballgame. Shame on Shaka for the last play in regulation. How many major teams would not get a shot off.

That's a wild stat if true.  Seems MU may need to can the meditation coach.  That's some mental block crap..which would tell me the players are too in their heads.

Quote from: Markusquette on Today at 09:01:11 PMThe players have to shoot the ball

And the coach to tell them on what to do. They must practice this everyday.  We are talking 17 seconds, not three.  The ball should have went up with like 4 seconds, maybe get a rebound. Inexcusable for a major college program and I cannot recall a team not getting off a shot with 17 seconds to go.

You know this was bad when Willie doesn't even bother to show up and gloat.

This is an unusually bad passing team and we're wildly inconsistent shooting the ball.  That's not a good combination

Oh...and then there's our defense.  If Dayton didn't have 100 turns, this game would not have been competitive. We forced a bunch, but most were self-inflicted.  Our h-c offense is horrible and our h-c defense is horrible. The result of these probs?  A conplete dumpster 🔥

Willie??? What about Fieldhouse? For all the pithy "Dayton sucks" entries on this board, look at our recent record vs. them. Need to take a real look at who sucks.

Maybe recruit a kid that has a jump shot, mid range, another issue with Shaka since there is not one player on this team with a jump shot, so in his system you just jack up threes, and let's face it there bad at that!  Also what kind of offense they run, to me very offensive.

I don't think roles have been defined at all on this team other than Chase being our primary scorer.

If you're gonna be a development program, it helps to, you know, develop players

I get that, but this discussion here is not getting a shot off with 17 seconds, not a whole game review.  Again, I don't believe I have ever seen that.

I've seen it but usually they're going full-court.  Regardless, it's inexcusable.
