Damn. Pick up the rock!
Aren't we lucky with the dynamic duo of refs
Once again, Ben playing off of one foot.
Good lord Caedin. He was set when you were 5 ft away from him
Extremely poor discipline/fundamentals fron Ben & Caedin.
NJ fouled but he's overdribbling. Move the basketball.
Our bigs consistently playing off of one foot is driving me absolutely nuts.
Getting out hustled so far

Try a splash of coconut rum in it. Fantastic
Get Tre off the floor.
Or ger him the ball. :)
Did a single MU player bring their brain to the game tonight?
Why was it suggested that Chase and Tre could play some point this year?
Who needs Wojo when his TO OOB plays are with us tonight
We look atrocious Scoopers. On both ends of the floor.
Our havoc defense is great at giving high percentage shots to Dayton. Wow
I don't think Dayton has not scored on a possession that MU double teamed at half court
How did we not get that reb?

Ive seen less oles in a bull fight compared to this defense.
no one can rotate. Everyone is open
Our bigs have to be the least talented group of any power conference team. It's not their fault, it's Shakas for his complete failure at assembling this team
We should have a pretty high draft pick next year!

100% correct.
Good grief RP.
This game could remove any remnant of confidence I had let for this season. Possibly before halftime.
I've seen rec teams play better defense
This is going to get ugly.
If we lose this we are likely looking at a 5-6 non-con.
This team should be playing far better than it is.
It's like they're all waiting for someone else to do something. No flow, no hooping. Just...kinda hoping for it to happen
I genuinely think we'll lose at least one game by 40+ points this season.
So far it's hard to see what they have learned from losing to I4 & MD.
Poor defense continues. MU needs to get things sorted and that starts by shortening the bench and working on half court D rather than pressing and trapping.

Our layup game is on point.
I would be annoyed if Duke was our opponent and made us look like this. It's freaking Dayton

Something going on with this team. Very weird vibes.

It doesn't feel like hyperbole that I never felt this amount of hopelessness at any point in the Wojo era

I am really having trouble getting my head around how badly MU is playing this year.
How can fast players look so slow on defense?

Dayton zone, knows MU can't shoot
Shaka's defense philosophy of agressive defense. Gold coming out again to three point line, Dayton then passing inside for easy buckets. MU getting turnovers, but matching Dayton with their turnovers. Dayton turnovers resulting in layups.
Offense brutal, James and Ross just dribbling around. 13 points 11 minutes in. A lot of time left, but not good. Every player

Dayton turnover, Norman missed layup
Ben Gold turnover

Four points, including two free throws in last six minutes. That's right, one field goal and two free throws in last six minutes. MU was up four at the time
NBA bound Gold has zero points, two rebounds and three turnovers, all resulting in points. Needs to have better half.

Usually optimistic for the most part, but we are terrible. Steal or give up an easy bucket. Historically bad Fg % D. Ugh.
Gonna be honest. Not even sure I'm going to watch half #2.
There is no reason for optimism at the moment. The defense is so bad. You can't overcome this level of incompetence defensively combined with the turnovers.
We force a turnover and immediately run the other way and give it back. When we went up 5 we should have actually ran an offense.

No confidence, no swagger. Totally out of sync. Second half - let's Gooo Marquette!
I'd hate to single out one guy but that was the worst half of basketball I've seen from Ben Gold in some time.
Maybe Shaka needs to switch to a zone after 10-15s of man to man pressure that creates some turnovers, because that switch out to oblivion with no help/communication is abysmal.
Also, proud of Chase for getting after his teammates and showing fire.
Shaka should've never taken him out at the 6 min mark, lead was gone in no time.
Not smart, and a mistake he wouldn't make in years past
Royce has played 7 MINUTES and hasn't shot a 3. He rarely play 7 seconds without getting up his first 3 point shot
If you can't stop transition and you can't play half court D, not much else matters. I expected this team to struggle offensively but to be better defensively. Man, was I off base.

Marquette was rolling two years ago - winning and playing a fun style of play. shaka raised Marquettes profile and it was a great game atmosphere.
Given that momentum, how did Shaka not hit on bigger recruits? His approach to develop talent should have made us a destination.
What happened? Is his weakness identifying talent which is compounded by his stubbornness to not take transfers?

And then, don't get shot off with 18 seconds on clock. That's on the coach. No way that happens. Maybe with like 3 seconds, but no way.

Let's try positive energy only.
We got this. We have the momentum.
I mean winning a horrible game is better than losing a horrible game but I'm leaning towards just wanting it to end
Quote from: DoctorV on Today at 08:44:26 PMFor fucks sake I'm sick to my stomach
What the F is up with our hesitation and standing around?
Get on the damn floor Zaide
I'm extremely upset right now.

Whoops
Lowery is really disappointing. Leaves his man lol
With continuation in College now, I'm not sure how that was not an and 1.
That would have been an and one under the old rules
That figures.
Gold injury ends it
Hamilton sucks so bad.
Hard to win in overtime without scoring a point
Sweet Jesus.
Big shot from Nigel there.
My goodness. Ben not being available to start this OT was the dagger.
I feel bad for this whole situation right now. No one is having fun. The game of basketball is supposed to be fun.
Are we sure the Dayton guy who made the last three isn't a Creighton player?
18 can't play
Quote from: Viper on Today at 08:50:28 PMneeded to ISO Chase
Dayton was in a zone.
I'm sure Caedin is a great kid who works hard, but not everybody is a high major college basketball player.
Sending out Caedin Hamilton in overtime is insane. You play parham at the 5 and put in Stevens
Quote from: MUEng92 on Today at 08:49:35 PMThat would have been an and one under the old rules
To be fair I thought it was a no call. But instead of 2, we got bupkis.
Steal on defense. And 1 on the other side. Manifesting our reality now.

Thx. not watching...listening to Homer
I'm with that student pulling his face down.
Omg.
Quote from: Viper on Today at 08:53:48 PMThx. not watching...listening to Homer
??? Why would you do that?
Putrid game
We had at least 4 times when an MU shooter spent too long thinking about shooting a 3, then air balling it.
Did not deserve to win. Dayton sucks, we suck worse
Maybe get a shot off with 17 sec
This is bad.
Really bad.
Cataclysmic situation.
Very Upsetting.
Caedin to start OT was a choice
Good relationships despite the loss
Ben Gold as a senior needs to learn to SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. passing up the ball with no time left on the clock....
At least we didn't deserve to win, then lose in OT.
Quote from: Johnny B on Today at 08:56:50 PMMaybe get a shot off with 17 sec
That simply cannot happen.
CBI, here we come!
Quote from: The Sultan on Today at 08:55:13 PM??? Why would you do that?
A) I'm on the road, listening on-line B) I really enjoy Homer/TSmith
C) even Homer can't positive spin this
Quote from: Jay Bee on Today at 08:57:05 PMCaedin to start OT was a choice
We were in a zone. I would have went small:
Nigel
Ross
Stevens
Lowery
Parham
Game tied with 40 to go in regulation
Lowery airball
James turnover
Not getting shot off in 18 seconds
OT
Down two
Hamilton misses front end
Hamilton screen foul with ball
MU scores 3 points in five minutes on James three
Ballgame. Shame on Shaka for the last play in regulation. How many major teams would not get a shot off.
Just depressing after so many years to see a drastic drop off. What is this roster. at least 2 dudes on year need to transfer down a level
There are better days ahead. Lots of flashes. But good god, this offense is brutal.
That was hard to watch.

I may intentionally not watch MU games in December.
Quite simply - embarrassing Marquette basketball. It looked like a team without a soul. Tentative, scared. Bad. Ugh.

The defense no better. I think I could score with Gold on me because I know how to get 25 feet of guaranteed separation.

We had 16 shots more than dayton tonight
Hey Chicken Littles, relax a little... We're better than Dayton because we don't take transfers. Ignore the final scores this season and focus on our moral superiority over other programs.
Why in hell was Chase on point the last 17 seconds? He is not a PG - no wonder we didn't get a shot off, despite the wondrous advice I'm certain they got from Shaka in the huddle.
Do we even finish .500 this year???

lol
Holding for last shot doesn't generally have a "point guard" my boy
terrible execution, but it would have been criminal to NOT have chase have the ball imo
but, there were a lot of criminal things in that game

Not only did we not shoot with game tied at end of regulation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We also did not get a shot at least 3 other times the score was tied. Why lol
People called this BS last year. Some of you need to wake up.

That's a wild stat if true. Seems MU may need to can the meditation coach. That's some mental block crap..which would tell me the players are too in their heads.

And the coach to tell them on what to do. They must practice this everyday. We are talking 17 seconds, not three. The ball should have went up with like 4 seconds, maybe get a rebound. Inexcusable for a major college program and I cannot recall a team not getting off a shot with 17 seconds to go.
You know this was bad when Willie doesn't even bother to show up and gloat.

This is an unusually bad passing team and we're wildly inconsistent shooting the ball. That's not a good combination
Oh...and then there's our defense. If Dayton didn't have 100 turns, this game would not have been competitive. We forced a bunch, but most were self-inflicted. Our h-c offense is horrible and our h-c defense is horrible. The result of these probs? A conplete dumpster 🔥

Willie??? What about Fieldhouse? For all the pithy "Dayton sucks" entries on this board, look at our recent record vs. them. Need to take a real look at who sucks.
Maybe recruit a kid that has a jump shot, mid range, another issue with Shaka since there is not one player on this team with a jump shot, so in his system you just jack up threes, and let's face it there bad at that! Also what kind of offense they run, to me very offensive.

I don't think roles have been defined at all on this team other than Chase being our primary scorer.

I get that, but this discussion here is not getting a shot off with 17 seconds, not a whole game review. Again, I don't believe I have ever seen that.

I've seen it but usually they're going full-court. Regardless, it's inexcusable.
