Shaka played lots of guys so the offense was understandably sloppy. SJ is still looking for the balance between making things happen on offense and playing with poise. Gold did not get many good looks. He needs to slow down his release. Owens has to be more physical. Stevens is built for BE play. Effort and speed were impressive.
No reason to help off the bounce there.
Even though the names and faces have changed, MU is still very bad at making baskets.
Too bad no one thought to get some people who are good at doing that.
Transition offense has to be better.

Fun game. Your defense is gonna be great. UA was missing two of its main ball handlers in Richardson and Muhammad, and as such had absolutely no answer for the press. Not that they would have helped all that much. I actually felt pretty good about what UA showed against a strong Big East team.

Very good point Tower. Like many here, I focused on the poor FT shooting and not the fact that we drew so many fouls. We righted the ship later in the game somewhat though. Same scenario in other games with decent FT shooting could push a close game into the W column. :)

Hard to tell a lot from these first games. Shaka playing a lot of guys, and everyone trying to do too much. The Indiana game will probably be the first indication of what we really have. But, having said that, I was certainly impressed with Nigel James - that kid is a player. I also thought Stevens looked really good. It was nice to see Chase sort of taking charge in the second half and also nice to see Zaide playing well. But, maybe the thing I found most interesting was the way Tre Norman played - good defense and calm and efficient on offense. Looks like he may have made some progress since last season.

I was actually encouraged by the FT shooting. The guards/wings(Jones, James, Norman, Ross, Lowry and Owens) shot 20-22. Those are the guys that will have the ball late. The bigs struggled, but Gold is probably the only big that will be on the floor when we need to make them and he's shown he can make them in the past so I'm not too worried about him. And like you said, they got there a lot which is the most important thing.

Equally impressed with Tre's game. Young players have a tendency to hoist up a 3 the first time they touch the ball when they get in there. You saw that with Parham and Phillips (and maybe Steven's, cant recall), but Tre showed a lot of poise out there I thought. There will be games when Jones and James are in foul trouble and we'll need him out there for extended minutes. He definitely will have a role on this team.

Liked all the below. Chase for SOTG. Zaide for 13 points. Gold was stabilizing force with veteran leadership. Owens for most points per minute. Clark for altering and 5 rebounds. Stevens for his 2 3 pointers. Nigel for his floor game and defense. Tre much the same as Nigel. Parham and Jones had better 2nd halves. Hamilton had some shot alters and defense. Phillips showed flashes. Walkons and all contested passes got in the passing lanes and had steals. Deflections were at 45 with minutes left. Not sure how many deflections Marquette ended up with.
