Pretty consistent over the past 30 years. It might have creeped into the high 70at one point, but I can't recall. Marquette is the fourth-highest-ranked school in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, trailing only Georgetown University, Boston College and Santa Clara University. I don't remember Santa Clara always being highly ranked.

Based on that ranking, I'm starting to wonder if he can read. Definitely can't read a room.

If you've driven through Ohio to Dayton and paid attention it isn't super surprising

MU at 82nd in the WSJ rankings; ahead of UW-Madison and Dayton? Must be a misprint?

The fact that MU isn't top 50 may cause me to amend my 5 point plan. :)

Marquette is leaning into being ranked higher than Wisconsin. This was at the top of the alumni newsletter that arrived today by email:

Ah yes. A tale as old as time.
Framing whatever ranking makes you look the best.

I think MSOE has a banner on one of their buildings touting they are the second best college in the Midwest or country. I always chuckle at what kind of filters were used on that.

Absolutely. Good marketing.

My guess with MSOE is it's based upon undergrad engineering rankings in their category. It is a very good school. Rose-Hulman in Indiana promotes that it's ranked the #1 undergrad Engineering school in the US (where doctorates are not offered).
Sultan is right that schools will use any positive to promote, especially in this competitive environment. Cooley Law School in MI (the worst law school in the country) used to promote that they were "#1 in Michigan" (for MI Bar passage rates one year). Whatever works, right? Cooley also created their own rankings system that had it ranked #2, only behind Harvard Law. Now the school is in danger of losing its accreditation; it's so bad.

I had an ex-gf in college whose sister was hell bent on being a lawyer. She wasn't a good or dedicated student (got into Wake Forest due solely to alumni/donation connections, somehow graduated), so the only schools she got into were St Thomas (the law school diploma mill in Miami) and New England College of Law. Pretty sure NECL was bottom 3 in the country at the time, but they were advertising themselves as something like "Top 5 in the country for students transferring to (insert fluffy adjective) programs". Basically a fake ranking showing that the school was such a joke and so easy that you could make solid grades and transfer to a top 75 program for L2 or L3.
