Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] Indiana Preview
Post by: brewcity77 on September 24, 2025, 07:26:14 AM
Hoosier fans are hoping that Darian DeVries can channel his Drake and West Virginia success to Bloomington. Indiana has proven mid-major players up and down the roster, but will that coupled with a complete roster turnover lead to immediate success? Cracked Sidewalks breaks down DeVries' coaching style and the new look Hoosiers.

Don't know what to think of this opponent, except that I need a ticket to the game.

I guess my hope is that they are a discombobulated mess when we play them, and we beat the crap out of them. Then, they go on to become a decent team with a solid resume, that helps us SQUEAK into the tourney come March. If you add up the raw numbers of their players, it's crazy. Not only different levels, but different usage roles for some of these guys are coming.. so glad we 'KNOW' our guys and don't have a patchwork roster of quitters like I4.

Nice write up.  Sent it to my IU friends.  They are all not sure what to think of their team.

An offense that encourages shooting from mid-range.

It's kind of wild. Part of it is what convinces me that Tucker DeVries is an All-American level player, regardless of what league he's in. He just takes and makes tough shots all over. He's going to score in the Big 10. But Coach DeVries' teams were in the 75th percentile of usage in midrange before Tucker arrived and it only increased after his arrival. And even after Tucker went out last year with injury, Javon Small, Toby Okani, Sencire Harris, they were all in the 22-36% of shots taken from midrange club. And none of them were over 40% in midrange. Considering the rate, it has to be part of the strategy, but I don't see it working against better defenses.

Alan, your Marquette Connection section has nary a mention of Special Assistant to the Head Coach Mike Bargen!
You just gave them their bulletin board material.

Game day bump! Darian DeVries is modernizing his offense and we reviewed their opener against Alabama A&M to get an idea of what we'll see today.

Bargen's a grinder.  Lots of time at Juco and then at Bradley. Really cool to see him hit primetime at IU.
