MU has landed players during the NIL era. MU has retained players in the NIL era. MU has paid players during the NIL era. I have little doubt that MU, under Shaka, will continue to get quality recruits.
What you haven't seen is MU engage in a bidding war. What you haven't seen is MU engage in negotiations to make one incoming freshman get a better deal than another. You will not see MU dropping a $1.5 million bag on a recruit.
The NIL world is evolving. It is different this season than last. Schools and conferences are working to adapt to the new rules and will continue to do so.
Pearl played the game extremely well last season under the old rules, getting an extremely old and experienced team. Those rules have changed, and the pool of players has changed.
Shaka has remained rock solid. The recruits and their families appreciate his commitment and his eschewing the portal. With the constantly evolving rules, it may turn out that he is far ahead of the curve.
There: a place you point at and many other things.
They're: they are
Their: belonging to them.

It didn't work for BC in third grade or in any of the last several decades. Good try, teach, but some students are just flat out dumb.
I might be dumb but hope you idiots we're as successful in your life as I am!

I just hope Shaka has the cash requires to land you're grandson.
I hope he is good enough to start in high school, then worry about college 4 or 5 years from now. All about height! Right now he is very good, had a great summer.
I really hope this formula works.
It's good to see that Eeyore #1 is still around.

That is a very kind sentiment. I think most of us share it. Why are you so concerned about the condition of MU basketball? What troubles you? Recruiting? Culture? Coaching? Finances?

I'm willing to grant that he may have done that one on purpose for the funnies. Or he's using a phone. My phone seems to think i want to type he'll at about 200x the rate i actually want to. I want to say hell, phone.
It's going to get more difficult, not less, to sell NIL at teams which are not performing in the Big East.

I get Seton Hall is in trouble (probably big time trouble) but what G'town? You guys are supposed to have deep pockets
Crack rock taste testing at a Hoyas game might draw
Now that D.C. is the safest, most crime-free city in the history of America, one would think Georgetown hoops would be an easy draw for big-time NIL $$$.

Somewhere, a group of dentists is trying to figure out how to create "Warriors LLC" to license on the Marquette jerseys.
Any idea what the RGV collection is going to look like?

Scary thought-not just in DC, but anywhere in the country-imagine NIL $ for political endorsements. :o
I can see it now-the Auburn team in a Bruce Pearl for Senator ad and patches on their unis...BRUCE!

Looking forward to the big MU Scoop patch that our annual fees can pay for.

It will probably be a plate or basket of some sort, maybe on a long pole that the ushers will stick down the rows during timeouts and halftime.
Nice of them to do it the day after Taylor Swift's album release to not overshadow it.

Question: How may players (football too) who entered the transfer portal did not wind up anywhere? There is a cautionary tale there somewhere.

Tons, but a lot who go into the portal know they may not find another home for various reasons

And many aren't choosing to go in the portal, they're being told there's no spot for them anymore so their only choice to continue playing is to transfer.

And some of them spend a year at Dayton, praying for a way out after a week at that dump, and can't wait to hop in the portal
Also, most portal stats cited included division transfers and walk ons. One of our AAU guys started D3, transfers to D1 as a walk on for two years, then back in the portal to go D3 for nice PT. Multiple portal years, but not really who the casual fan is talking about re: transfer dislike in college sports.

The focus is always at the top tier of players and schools, but most people don't think about the vast numbers below them. You look at the biggest schools and all the $$ they make or the best names and how much they should get paid, yet the average and lower tiers of actual student athletes get screwed in the new processes and systems. The portal is great for the most talented, but now it's a lot easier for schools to quietly dump their players and potentially end their college athletic career.

I hear what you're saying. But athletes like, say, Jamal Cain also benefit from not having to sit out a year if they transfer to a program more befitting their level.
Non-P5 athletes don't get the big bucks, but they do get the freedom of movement. And that's pretty much always a good thing.
Plus, "Buzz cuts" were taking place a decade before NIL and the portal existed. It's easy to romanticize the previous way things were done, but plenty of athletes were getting screwed by the process back then, too.

I think Cain grad transferred using his Covid year so it's slightly different but agree overall.
