The guy had a very solid career.  May he rest in peace.  My grandma's house is 4 houses down from where he filmed Ordinary People.  It was before I was born but I was told he was extremely kind as was that entire cast.

Crazy.  I just randomly watched Spy Games with him and Brad Pitt the other day.

Ugh no way. What a legend.

I loved his portrayal of a fictional journalist speaking truth to power in a timely manner and not hoarding news for a book release.

This one is going to hit my mom really hard. She was a huge fan. She was also an on-set nurse for the parts of the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid that were filmed near where I grew up.

"Legend" is an overused word. I feel comfortable using it for Redford.

Agreed.
When Bob Redford is only the fifth- or sixth-best actor in your film, that's a good cast.

Great point.  What a cast.  I have Sir Ben Kingsley in my top 5 of all-time.  That was solidified after watching Sexy Beast and Death and the Maiden.  My list is:

DDL
Nicholson
Brando
Hackman
Kingsley

5 best actresses is difficult but Tilda Swinton is way up there.  I'm not sure she's gotten the credit she deserves.  Off the charts range of characters.

Will miss Roy Hobbs, tremendous actor and producer.

Off top of my head top:

Harrison Ford
Al Pacino
R Di Nero
Tom Cruise
Robert Duvall

Then - Newman, Hackman, Henry Ford,  Decaprio

Cate Blanchett is also incredible.  I had never seen Notes on a Scandal until about a week ago.  It's a taboo subject, but Blanchett and Judi Dench are insanely good.  Some of the best acting and writing I have seen in quite some time.
