I will be at Oakmont Thursday. Not one of the cool kids like Rico or Herman. I will be on site from the first shuttle in until late in the evening. Walking around and taking in as much as I can. Look for the MU hat and the obnoxious floral print polo.
5 inch rough, 14.5 on the stimpmeter. Carnage. If Rory plays there the way he played in Canada today, he will shoot 90.
Glorious.

With Scottie's huge success while I was a personal guest of him, he has invited me back as his guest. I'll send the driver to pick you up and get you to the course safely.
Will -1 be the winner Tower? By all accounts it's going to be brutal beyond words.

I believe he injured his wrist at Oakmont in '07. His last chance to complete the slam of I'm not mistaken.
Will the USGA give him an exemption? I wouldn't considering how he's treated them and constantly belittled and battled them. My hunch is, he gets one exemption. Just not sure which one it'll be at. Pebble would be my guess

Starting in 2012, I had the honor of playing Oakmont for eight straight years until a medical issue caused me to stop playing. Friend of mine is a member. The first time, I drove there and gps took me through a residential neighborhood and there it was, right in a neighborhood. Drove short distance, clubs out of trunk and parked car in small lot. Got there very early, too went to pro shop and probably spent $600 in shirts, hats, visors, ballmarks and made way to the clubhouse.
Entered and it was like going back in time, everything was probably original to 1920's. Walked upstairs to clubhouse and was amazed that lockers, urinals, showers, sinks were all original. The wood floors and benches had spike marks and as I was looking around dazed, the club attendant came by and said "Interesting, uh?" and asked if I needed locker. I confirmed and as placing purchased items and shoes, he said something like, "just think, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack and others made those spike marks". Crazy
Hit some balls at a small range and then to first tee with caddie. He asked me if I was a good putter and I said yes and he just grinned. I was 7 handicap at time and shot 90 with five three putts from member tees. I made one birdie on 17, short par 4 with 4 iron off tee and wedge to one foot.
Most amazing course ever played. No water, no trees, just thick rough, many bunkers and greens that are just insane with contours, shelves and almost unfair fast. The first hole is just a beast, and number 8 is like 280 yard downhill par 3 (I parred it first time). Hole number 9 green is cool and it incorporates the putting green at the back.......
Good viewing will be by 10 green and 11 tee and anywhere by holes 4 and 5 and 7 green and 8 tee box. Enjoy
Thanks. My friend and I have never been there before, so definitely going to tour the grounds and maybe follow a couple of groups in the morning before settling in for the afternoon.

Just be advised holes 2 thru 8 are across the turnpike via a bridge. The famous "pew bunkers" hole 3 is a pretty far walk, but a must see for awhile. I'd start hole number one, a beast, then go over bridge for number 3 and 8 (long par 3), then work yourself back over bridge. Heck, they are all good. The back nine holes are very close to each other, no long walks from greens to tee boxes. Have fun.

Hovland is dangerous if he can putt.
That's a leaderboard at Oakmont.
Burns evolution as a player has to include competing for majors and he has the opportunity. I'm skeptical he's in the mix on Sunday.
Ben Griffin has been one of the best players on tour the past few months. Wyndham Clark 2.0?
Hovland has been in the mix for majors. Can he avoid big numbers? That's been his issue in the past.
Adam Scott is the sentimental favorite but that putter is always the issue. On these greens? Hard to trust him.
Russell Henley has quietly been a top-20 player for over a year and got in the mix in '22. He was +4 at one point yesterday but steered her home to +2. Seems fidgety in big spots.
Brooks is Brooks but it feels like he's living off that day 1 early eagle. 2 years ago, I'd have said he's the clear favorite and this is a setup he can steer through. Still, not sure I'm buying.

Should be an interesting if not glamorous Sunday. I still think Hovland makes a couple strokes like he did late at the PGA last year to push Xander.
Also, buddy reminded me today of a funny Hovland anecdote. He reposted an IG story from a trip to Norway last year. He's a big golfer and while doing an Arctic Circle trip (Svalbard and such), they flew to Bodo and drove up to play Lofoten Links, an incredible course in the middle of nowhere in the islands and fjords of ultra northern Norway. Its a really challenging narrow and windy course. My buddy is basically a scratch golfer and shot like a 77 or so from the back tees. He was really pumped about it. Then the next picture in the post is a sign at the course mentioning that Hovland has the course record of 63 ;D

He's 1/4 Filipino and the average Filipino is 5'5", 1/4 Mexican, and the average Mexican male is under 5' 7" so he is actually above average for half of his ethnicity.

I think Muggsy just needs a win.
When I lived in Chicago, I had a weekly game with two friends and we'd rotate the 4th spot between a few others. One of them was a 5-5 guy we nicknamed "Woosie." (He immediately embraced the nickname, even saying, "Hey, it's Woosie," if he called one of us.)
He was a 3 handicap, he had every shot, and he was far and away the best of our group. And he hit the hell out of the ball - his drives were an easy 275 despite his size, showing the importance of mechanics over muscle.
So hurrah for Spaun and, sure, for Muggsy.

Stop, just stop. He's of smaller stature compared to his competitors. So is Brian Harman. No need to demean actual dwarves who have it very difficult. And "little people of the world" deserve to be respected.
Woos

Woosy had a tremendous swing! I have watched many of his videos. For some reason I just can't get the pop he did on my shots. :(
I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt but I'm a little lost with the Rory drama.
What is the big deal? He is searching for his next Everest and is in the process of moving back to London. Lost and stressed.

He'll probably be fine by Portrush. One of my favorite courses.

Hope he's ready to pound Team USA into dust at Bethpage

I'm a bit concerned about Team 🇺🇸. Europe seems deeper.
Will Griffin be on the Ryder Cup team?
If he earns it.

With him and the media? I know them leaking his driver was non-conforming ticked him off while others weren't named. Also to the common person, it may come off as him cheating.
I think the bigger thing is he stuck out his neck for the PGA and put himself out there as the face of PGA against LIV. He took a some heat for that and then the PGA did him pretty dirty with the announced deal. I think that's taken a toll on him.

You could be right. Maybe they should just require these guys to talk to the media like they do tennis players? I dunno.
Bryson, Scottie, JJ, JT, X, Morikawa are the current top 6. Figure Burns gets a captain's pick to partner w Scottie. Next up are Henley, Griffin, English, Maverick, Novak, Harman. Hardly murderers row.
Whom do you pair with Bryson?

Good question. Harman would be interesting. No Koepka? It's too bad Finau and Speith are struggling.

You've stated you're rich. Move to Europe. Or Singapore if you have crazy wealth.

Sure I can. I'm an evangelical Christian
