lol it's not like this is the first year of this. it seems pretty obvious this has been MU's thought process for years:
Graduate from MU and transfer? Ok
Leave early for nba? Ok
transfer in? Ok
Leave early to head to another school? Best of luck but you aren't an "MU guy"

This seems to be the case. You're dead to MU when you leave early.
So, I guess Bob Odenkirk is also not an MU alum.

Not really. MU sends Jamal Cain gear, has included him in their good luck images in the past, etc. Jamal graduated from MU and then transferred. Sam graduated from a different school.

He's an actor from Naperville. A few good roles, was actually the backup choice as Michael Scott if Steve carrel had passed up the opportunity.

By the definition of alum he's an alum but the basketball program can pick and choose who they want to call "MU guys", it's why I didn't say "alum" in my response.
Oso isn't in there, either. Graduated Marquette as an Academic All-American, has talked very positively about his MU experience.
Maybe, just maybe, these things don't really "say" much about who is and isn't in them.
That said, to heck with Vanilla Soft Serve and his Wahoo bro.

Odenkirk played Saul Goodman on "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul." Breaking Bad is considered one of the best TV shows in history by many. He also starred in the Movie "Nobody"
Earlier in his career he was a writer for SNL. In 1993 he wrote the Skit "Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker" starring Chris Farley. Rolling Stone voted it the best SNL skit in history.
https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-lists/50-greatest-saturday-night-live-sketches-of-all-time-12735/2-buh-weet-sings-23912/
I assume you know that Chris Farley graduated from MU.
Odenkirk was from Naperville (as noted above) and attended MU for two years before transferring to SIU, where he graduated.
So the greatest SNL skit in history was written by one MU Alum and performed by another MU Alum. The greatest TV shows in history had an MU Alum as a central character.
In keeping with this thread, I guess Odenkirk is not an MU alum because he did not finish at MU so he is dead to everyone here.

I'm a big Bob Odenkirk fan. A few seasons of Better Call Saul were every bit as good as Breaking Bad. Just awesome stuff.
But I do not know the answer to this:
Does Odenkirk embrace his Marquette experience? Is he happy he went to our wonderful alma mater? Or does he ignore it, like Wahoo's finest 2021 NCAAT first-round loser does?
Let bring Bob Back! He really is one of the best. Its all good man.
In addition to all his other accomplishments, Odenkirk's role as the former porn star Gil Bang in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the funniest half hours of TV ever --- The secret is hot sauce.
Odenkirk was also hilarious as Larry Sander's agent.

I read Bob Odenkirk's memoirs a couple of years ago. He talks about Marquette for about a paragraph. You kind of had to read between the lines, but it sure sounded to me like he partied too hard and flunked out.
Also, not to be pedantic, but Bob did not write the Matt Foley skit in 1993. That is when it was performed on SNL, but he wrote it several years earlier when he and Chris Farley were both on the main stage at Second CIty. Here is a recording of it, with Bob playing the dad and Tim Meadows playing one of the kids.
Thanks for posting that Chick. I had never seen that before.

First, he was at MU for just one year.
Second, he does not embrace his MU experience. It merited exactly one line in his autobiography for not having the type of student life he was after.

All time scorer is great for Marcus but there is more to the game than good shooting. Wojo did not know how to build a team. The Hausers jumped ship that had a sub-standard coach who did not know how to use the talent he had. Looks like Sam is doing fine with his 3 year $5.7M contract and then a 4 year $45M contract extension with Boston. Joey no doing so well.
I understand our all time leading scorer is doing well playing for Cazoo Baskonia in Spain where he got a contract extension and a pay raise. I can not find his salary but the highest paid in Europe reportedly earned $2-4M/year in the '23/'24 season. Marcus was not on that list but I expect he will be soon.
I didn't know that Marcus Smart went to Marquette.

Looks like 3.7 million over 3 seasons.
I agree there's more to ghe game than being a good shooter but that's also all Sam was in college. Let's not only use that as a slight at Wojo. Sam always had a better shot at the NBA than Markus due to size, though Markus did pretty decent given physical limitations.
Absolutely elite offenses with Markus & Wojo. An amazing point guard for us.
'MU needs 3 point shooters!'
MU had one of the elite 3 point shooters, the all time leading scorer at MU and in the Big East, and a two time all American.

Bob Odenkirk was great in Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul. One of the reasons he got a shot at the Breaking Bad role was because he attended Marquette. More announcements coming on that. BIG Secrets will be revealed - many Marquette related.
Better Call Saul was Breaking Bad episode 15 which aired on April 26th.
