I would guess that since Marquette lost one player to the transfer portal, it would not be surprising if Shaka made a rare dip into the portal for one player, but only if it makes sense.
That leaves one for a high school player. It would be nice to find an athlete on an upward trajectory, a modern-day David Robinson. OK, that's asking a bit much, but someone in that mold, someone who played guard in younger years, developed good ballhandling and shooting touch, and grew late. Ideally, he would be a left-handed player since lefty's blocking hand lines up with right-handed shooter's hand and the majority of shooters are left-handed.
La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.) national team lefty reserve forward Grayson Bennett was 5-7 as an 8th grader in Houston. He has grown to 6-9, has a 7-2 wingspan, and is in the Class of 2025. Still needs to learn how to play physically and learn how to play in the post in general, but is explosive, might still be growing, is a smooth athlete and is in a terrific program. No clue who's recruiting him, but when you think the word "trajectory" and the players Shaka identified at every stop of his career and developed well, this seems like a potential fit.
I believe he was referenced on the scout board as someone MU is recruiting.
My guess is they get a 2026 recruit to reclass and take a redshirt. Spend a year with us instead of a year at prep school.

Do you have a specific player in mind, or just think someone in general will be convinced to do this?

Ugh this will be Joey Hauser all over again!
Wasn't there a rumor that the Vaughn kid from Oregon, WI was going to go to prep school?
Could he be in play for the reclassify/redshirt? I would fully support that

Unlikely it's him
Bummer

Not really........most guys aren't reclass candidates.
Certainly believe we are still recruiting him.......just haven't heard anything to suggest it would be anything other than for 2026.

Yes. More developmental projects, please.
I predict, if Shaka uses both available scholarships, one or both will be for players of a similar build and athleticism to Amadou, but with more basketball experience. Athletic, springy 6'9, 230 would be much appreciated. Perhaps he can find in the portal an Amadou or Itejere style player looking to play up without demanding a bag drop.
To my eye, that is the only real hole in the roster. Everything else is covered, just need experience.

David Boone or Bob Lackey type would be nice as well!
Please list the 6'5 rebounding machines in D1 basketball.
Just gave you two!
From 40 and 50 years ago. Did you reference players from the 1920s and 1930s when you were playing?
It appears the best rebounder under 6'6 with any eligibility left is Nicolaos Chitikoudis from NC A&T.

Or a guy like red dunn, Dick Quinn or Ray Morstadt
Personally I want a Lee Alcindor type.

I heard Lazar Hayward outplayed him when UCLA played Marquette.
George Mikan be solid for a traditional...........although he might have trouble playing Shaka's preferred defensive scheme.......especially at 101 years old.
Oh he's dead you say?
That's even tougher then......

We bought Lew Alcindor off Temu cuz it was cheaper and this is what we got

What? Where are consistent 3 point shooters?
And we need 2 bangers that can play now. Not more development guys.

Thanks
Think we should probably get some guys that are just happy to be here.

What's a good 3pt percentage for a consistent 3pg shooter?
I'm looking for high-level bench celebrators who are also 4.0 students.
I want some aircraft carriers who have only just learned that a basketball is round

Just go to the tree of plenty and pluck a guy like that out of your dreams.

I'd kill for another Bob Lackey, may he rest in peace. A combination physical, hard knocks ballplayer and an all-around character. Didn't take crap off anybody.
One of my favorite Warriors of all time.

I remember the game at the Milwaukee Auditorium vs N Michigan. when the fight broke out he came off the side lines with a folding chair before being ushered off the court by staff.
I'd kill for another Him Jones

In the late 70s, Texas had two football players named Johnny Jones, so the coach nicknamed them Lam and Ham.
The next season, another Jones, this one named Anthony, joined and the coach nicknamed him Jam.
No Kam though.
