How do you think it will be used? Portal?
Pocketed?
Another late project big signing?
I had been thinking pocket, but I have had my curiosity piqued about another project big.
Related, how many players do you think will depart? How many brought in?
I only see Shaka hitting the portal if Parham leaves. Every other position already had a replacement in place, either on the roster or in the freshman class.

Save it for the next HS class. Sign three in the fall (replacing Chase and Ben, plus the open one).

So no bad habits.
I think this is the hardest Shaka will look into the portal since he's been here. Purely gut feeling
I think a junior big transfer who can rebound and maybe score in the post would be a good move. It would provide a nice three player rotation with Parham and Gold and allow Parham to focus on the 4 spot. When Gold graduates, Hamilton fills his spot in the rotation. It would give Hamilton and Clark a little more time to develop. I actually thought the (bogus) rumor about Freeman made a lot of sense from MU's perspective.
Expecting 1-2 portal additions for next year.
Agree I think the portal comes into play one way or another this year.

I think it's easier to transfer away from a 7 seed that lost first round compared to a team coming off back to back two seeds and a Sweet Sixteen.

Why would Parham leave? Is that the word?
Quote from: bradforster on March 23, 2025, 08:37:58 PMWhy would Parham leave? Is that the word?
No word. I think he stays. I think he is the one player whose departure would force Shaka to the portal. I think everyone else has a replacement.
Maybe the Iowa rumor ends up being true. If not, maybe a project.
Quote from: bradforster on March 23, 2025, 08:37:58 PMWhy would Parham leave? Is that the word?
No. He's just saying there's not an obvious replacement in that hypothetical.

What rumor is that?
I think Shaka will stand pat this year unless someone like Parham leaves. I don't think he will have a talk with marginal players about leaving as I think he truly wants to see if his recruit and develop philosophy is viable. If the test fails next season, I could see him modifying his approach the following season.

From what I understand, the upperclassmen at MU receive more NIL than the underclassmen. If that's indeed the case, Parham will be the first one that stress tests that. He's probably our highest valued asset as far as NIL is concerned currently. MU may need to match some good offers to retain him, which could make him our highest paid player next year.
Perhaps I should have included transfers out and multiple high schoolers.
Odartey Blankson's son, apparently.
Quote from: dpucane on March 23, 2025, 09:40:17 PMIs there noise on him to Marquette?
There was something on an Iowa message board. It died down.
I could see at least one transfer out and even 2 in this off season. I have some doubts every player sees the ideal path forward at MU and may want to explore something new whether it's playing lesser competition and getting more time or a lateral move for more money.
I'm sick of the project big men. That's why I think the portal needs to be used in that regard, especially after the obvious struggles this year. As of now, MU has 7 different players for 2025-26 in Jones, Amadou, Clark, James, Stevens, Miletic and Phillips. Everyone except Jones is a question mark right now.

The only reason I'm not outright dismissing it is because he came into the portal with a no contact tag and we know MU keeps things under wraps. Plus we were involved out of HS.
But we'll see.
Plenty of smoke on Freeman to Illinois, fwiw.

Everyone here says we have the money. I am not sure we can compete with the football schools. Not only us but the Big East in particular.

More reason to let Shaka work his retain and develope model v the portal every year. Maybe a few more ups and downs but makes us unique. And maybe not more downs as going into the portal is not all gain situation especially if it results in more players transferring and not sticking it out. I don't miss all of the previous coach's yearly transfers. The stability has been great even if it doesn't work every year.

Not surprised in the least. The power conference teams are using the mid-majors as minor league system and are taking their best experienced players to plug into their teams.
This will be a regular occurrence. Unless the recruits are instant impact players, your higher end teams are going for experience over youth.

O.D. Blanksonson.
And then we would have the upper hand on Blankson's grandson in the Class of 2045, O.D. Blanksonsonson.
Opinion: It would not be a good sign for next year's recruiting class, if we use it on a high school player this year.

Why not, you do not like competition? So somebody transfers, big deal, your never going to keep 15 players happy anyway.

Much less of one than the others. Comeback from injury, sure, but I expect him to be one of the top few contributors.
I'd like an aircraft carrier like Jim Chones
