1. Helluva game.
2. Dent finally stepped up late.
3. Joplin on the other hand.... well done and thank you for keeping MU in the game.
4. Turning point was the non-foul call on Joplin. Air went out of the balloon. Felt inevitable at that point.
5. Too many missed lay ups.
6. Lobo length was impactful.
7. Needed more from Stevie, Chase, Royce, Zaide.
8. In the end, Kam playing poorly,

Woof. Not good.
Depressing end to this era of Marquette basketball.

I enjoyed the 2024 portion but after that it was just not enjoyable.
Time for Shaka to swallow his pride and stop being cute with the recruit team building mentality and bring in some more difference-makers.
Stevie finishes with 2 points...leaving him 4 shy of 1,000 in his career. That's too bad.
Could've had all 3 Seniors in the 1,000 point club.
10. Not having a true center, true point guard and really no consistent production from the bench really limited the ceiling of this year's team.
As a whole, grateful for another NCAAT appearances and a mostly ranked season. Still in disbelief we were a top-10 team just two months ago. We regressed in production and didn't get better as the season went on.
Hoping there's a serious reflection about the roster next year. What's coming back and what's coming in probably isn't as good as this year's team, sadly.
I think at the end of the day, needing Kam to play point was the undoing of the team by the end of the season. We know what he could do when we had Kolek.
I'm still optimistic...about this season
He was an all American doing what he did.
Can we please now that the year is over be objective??
This was not a fun last 3 months. It was bad. Objective. If you care. It was bad.
It was a good non con. A horrible way for all timers to go out.
Helluva a game is one of the more outrageously comical things Ive ever heard
Makes you wonder what having Sean Jones would have done for this team. No other ball handler besides Kam was brutal
Four straight years of losing to a lower seed. Five straight for Shaka.
Not a great trend.

Marquette closed as a 4.5 point favorite. Marquette was pitiful in crunch time. I'm proud to be an MU fan, but this was not a "helluva game." It got away from MU with under five to go and became an easy NM win.
Just a disappointing end to the season, a wojo-like collapse. Shakas team certainly do not over-perform in the tourney
Looking forward to next year. Who knows, may be pleasantly surprised.

Feel bad for Stevie to go out on a low note. Yet almost wonder if he is so banged up, and perhaps even slightly concussed from that massive collision in Big East tourney - kind of like Oso last year.
Also unfortunate Kam didn't have a great game either. Kudos to Jop for balling out.
Thankfully I didn't have to watch the 2nd half due to dinner reservations
Yes and calling this a helluva game is completely laughable....we fricken lost and the season is done. Helluva game for the lobos i suppose
Agree it wasn't a hell of a game. We played like crap down the stretch
Just saw UConn throw the ball away on two inbounds plays within a couple minutes, so there's that.
1. Dent>Kam
2. How is it possible NM has a bigger, stronger, more athletic, more talented roster than we do? That shouldn't be the case
3. Kam and Stevie, who I will miss, couldn't have come up smaller.
4. Joplin, who I won't miss, nice game.
5. This roster needs a massive upgrade. Hit the portal.
6. The offense was atrocious since January. We cannot continue this iso ball BS with below average talent. Every team has a few sets that gets them an easy bucket. NM certainly did. We can't even get the ball inbounded, let alone some ball/player movement to get a easy basket.
7. The underachieving in March is getting old.

Jop fought like he cared. Will remember this game for him. I feel worse for everyone having had to suffer through this version of Stevie. Would have rather had Sean or Tre for 40 minutes than whatever this was. Maybe his rim production was always going to regress. Maybe it was really injuries. But if he's not going to make excuses for costing this team down the stretch, there's no reason for us to do it for him. Players play.

Precisely great recap.. CoS to the rescue though...
Bad finishing the season after going 18-3 and #6 in the country.
Shaka has taken MU to NCAAT four years in a row.
Year One: got throttled as a 9 seed. OK, but was great to get back in NCAAT
Year Two: Win one game as a 2 seed, then lose with three players in NBA and a fourth to be.
Year Three: Win two games as a 2 seed, then lose to an 11 seed, jacking up 31 threes, making 4. With two players in NBA and a third to be.
Year Four: Lose as a 7 seed to a 10.
So, it was lose opening game, win one, win two and I thought maybe win three in year four to get to Elite 8. Good thought trajectory, but not.
I am glad he has taken MU to NCAAT, but Shaka just has had a history in NCAAT. Maybe in a few years.
Please don't bash Stevie Mitchell, the guy just played his heart out for years and I believe the last month his body is well, shot. When a player like Dent blew by him early in the game, I knew. All other players are fair game.

Ya.....it's difficult to disagree with your point.
Just didnt seem like the really good complimentary pieces last year, were good enough to be contributors this year.
Stevie is an elite glue guy. He isnt a guy to carry a scoring load.
When Kam is triple teamed, and Jop is the only release valve, thats not good.

I can't speak to that. We all need to decompress and then figure things out. It will take a precise and detailed examination.
Love these seniors, they gave a ton to the program and all timers. But yes, objectively that was a painful last 2 months to watch. I don't doubt that these guys are all very close off the floor, but the chemistry at least on the floor felt "off" for awhile. Which is bizarre when you have 3 starters in their final stretch. You would think the opposite would have happened. Who knows...just unfortunate.

It's ok to be mad and frustrated. But this first 4 years there was a lot of winning. Thought we were missing a few pieces this year. That's ok.
For the 10 of us who saw the Geogia game it was obvious that this team was gonna struggle against big, long, athletic teams. For me, that game was the 1st crack in the armor.
Thank God Kansas was such a mess going from #1 to bounced out in the 1st round otherwise we'd be the most embarrassing story of the year.
Love Shaka but it's long overdue to put that VCU Final Four story to bed. It's forever ago in this day and age; ancient history.
Participation ribbon guys on this board got what they wanted. A good effort from 1 guy 👏 👏 👏
And I got what I wanted: an end to this pitiful 2025 MU season. The downward spiral was obvious and painful to watch.
Thankfully we didn't have to get embarrassed by Izzo AGAIN.
Stop with all the jop worship. He was -12 while scoring 28 points. Worst player on the team by far. He made 4 consecutive stupid plays which led to the Lobo run. Glad to see the end of his era. The minutes he was on the bench were all plus minutes.
Kam and Stevie also had bad games.

Super disappointed, but more so because I allowed myself to have hope and be excited. The outcome was probably expected. The biggest difference between the 2 teams was NM had an inside presence. Huge advantage.
Most good teams do. We had none.
It became easier and easier to defend our offense because all teams had to do was seal off the paint. Layups became harder and harder throughout the year. Which gets me to midrange jump shots but we all know you can't bring that up with the extreme viewpoints of all mid range jump shots are evil.

This was a choice.
Shaka could have tried to find proven size in the portal and try to make a run with a solid trio of seniors, led by a legit all-American candidate.
Instead, he chose to give a scholie to redshirt and cross his fingers with Gold and Hamilton.
This was a choice.
This team gave us false hope early on. Jop and Stevie are great 5/6 players. They were asked to be 2/3. Kam is a great off guard. He was asked to be a lead guard. The Freshman - Juniors showed glimpses of being solid role players. They failed to show much more than glimpses or of the potential to be more.
All in all, this year is ended about how I expected it would before it started.
For now, disappointed as I may be, I'll appreciate the last 4 years the seniors gave us. Amazing representatives of the school. I'm proud for them to be fellow alumni. But from a basketball sense, we have a lot of digging to do, because we should be better.

I watched some early season highlights of Stevie the other day. He was bouncy as hell. He's definitely a much different player right now. I think the injuries were a huge factor.

Would of liked to see Rim

My favorite staple of the Wojo era was high hedge with our centers on pick and rolls, only to be regularly burned by post finishes by their big, or an easy kick out for a three because our centers weren't quick or athletic enough to get back down lol.
Ellenson. Fischer. Heldt. John. Different players. Same result. The talent didn't fit the (defensive) schemes.
The thing that gets me is nit how we played yesterday. It's hiw we played poorly for over two months - and that could not corrected. I'm certain the coaches and staff were trying to fix it, but it just did not happen. That's what is frightening about this season. A spiral down that could not be fixed. From a top 10 team to out of the top 25 finals week, and then this.
We got outmanned and outplayed yesterday. But that's because the problem of two months could never be fixed. Baffling .

Post game analysis from Dodds
He's actually making a really good point. But it's funny that he thinks his analysis is actual analysis.

They can easily beat msu. they are better than We are. Dent is more useful than the great kam jones. they have an elete big and other good players and defenders. I love the high and mighty lobo guy coming on this board acting like they made the final four cause they beat a lost Marquette team that limped into the tourney. Yay

Yup. My soul is intact and at peace.
Not sure why anyone would think this was "a hell of a game." And, the game was not decided in the last five or six minutes. It was obvious from the outset that our guys were really struggling with NM's quickness and aggressiveness and having a really hard time against NM's defense. Even when MU clawed their way back to a brief lead in the second half, NM was in no real danger because our guys were running out of gas. I didn't know whether to be more impressed with NM or disappointed in the way our guys played. I finally decided that it was simply the inevitable ending to bad second half of the season.

Unfortunately felt the same way right from the start. If jop doesn't go crazy it's a comfortable double digit win for them. what's up the seeding and match ups? Very unlucky for MU. Honestly think they'd have a better chance beating msu.
