Well X Uuuuse me.   Tee time will supercede the game.   Plus, I have had crap luck with Peacock.  More of a Peacuck for me when attempting  to watch MU hoops live this season.

It is just asinine to think that anyone, including Marquette, should be concerned with Xavier.

Should be an easy win. It's unfathomable that MU is only a 2 point favorite.

Xavier is a threat from outside. That alone can win them games. Then you have to acknowledge that even with 3 point threats, their best player is a post player in Freemantle. They are a tough matchup.

Marquette has one more win than Xavier this season.  Marquette hasn't beaten anyone of note since 1/3.  Xavier beat Marquette at home.  Xavier has won 7 straight games.  Marquette has lost 6 of their last 10.  There is a real chance we get our doors blown off.

Xavier +2.5 feels generous.

X has won 7 straight but besides beating Creighton they've been feasting on the bottom four of the BE.  They'll be motivated though since this game should decide their NCAA fate.

I'd be very surprised if we get our doors blown off the way the team has been playing of late unless they are mentally checked out.  I don't think the seniors let that happen.  Will be interesting to find out.

As was pointed out over a month ago, the biggest difference between MU and Xavier in conference play is that XU played most of its most difficult conference games in the first half of the conference season while MU had them in the back half.

Throw in the games that XU played without Fremantle (including the first MU game) and the teams have almost eerily similar conference performances.

I said then that I expected a rubber match between the teams in MU's first BET game and that if it happened the game would be viewed as a tossup.

And here we are.

I wonder if MU will have any physical limitations.

Both Jones and Ross were hobbling after the tumbles they took in the OT on Saturday and Mitchell is always dealing with something.

If the game isn't going well, Shaka might decide to let the younger players finish it out like he did in last year's BET final.

Personally, I'd like to see Parham, Lowery and Owens all play 20min+ today. I don't think our starters can make it through 3 big east wars in 72 hours anyway. If we win today, then go all out in semis and play starters max min.

I am typically pretty optimistic when it comes to MU hoops, but given the trends of the two teams, the number of shooters they have, and the fact they sit on Kam's left hand better than most teams, I am anxious about this game. X is on a roll, feeling confident and this game is their ticket to the tourney. I will be very impressed if MU can bounce back from two extremely hard fought but heartbreaking losses and play our best game. Hoping desperately for a win for this group to get some positive vibes back, but nervous about this one.

In terms of Xs and Os, our best chance against them is a lot of pressure and forcing turnovers. We don't seem to be doing that as much lately for some reason and if I recall correctly we lost the turnover battle to X in the game we lost. Freemantle was out the game we won. Tough matchup, but we have to earn it.

I realize X is on a roll - won 7 straight. But those wins were: PC 2x, Butler 2x, DePaul and Seton Hall. Their only impressive win was home against Creighton.

Expecting Xavier all out effort for hopes of a tourney bid. This feels concerning given the trajectory of both teams right now. Lunardi has Marq as an 8 playing 9 seed Arkansas, need to get off that line...find your shot Kam!

Could that happen?  Anything's possible.  But based on how the team has looked since the Nova game, even with some tough losses, it's absurd to think something like that is likely.

Xavier has won however many straight, but if we go back to the last four games only, Marquette has actually performed better (like the best team in the conference actually).

I think to have any real success in ncaa tournament; we need to get out of the 8/9 seed.  That means beating Xavier today.

This is not a meaningless game.  We have to show that we can beat a good team.  If we can't beat X today, how can anyone expect to win a game next week.

I think these metrics lose a lot of their significance when you apply them to such a small sample of games.

One of the things that concerns me, and several others on this board, is that MU has lost several games that were tight in the final minutes.

You can't expect blowouts like against Seton Hall and Providence in tournament games, so a team has to be able to finish out close ones. MU hasn't been good at this lately.

One very specific concern is identifying who you'd want at the foul line in the last minute while trying to protect a small lead.

Unlike some of the imagined horrors some Scoopers float out there, the concern that Marquette has had trouble closing out games against good teams is legit IMHO. Hopefully, we play so well today that we win by a lot, but I'm realistic enough to know that's not likely; so hopefully we make the plays at winning time - including hitting FTs - that let us win a close one.

As for the metrics ... what's enough games? 5 games? 7? 10? 20? I've been saying that we're playing pretty well now, so I do get a tiny bit of satisfaction that the metrics agree with that.

None of it really matters, though, because now our heroes get a chance to show how well they're actually playing - on the court, not in the metrics. I'm still hopeful of getting to the second weekend, but I acknowledge that I'm one of the board's bigger optimists.

We Are Marquette!

Kam 3s are still essentially a turnover. The wildest shooting decline I have ever seen.

Which team looks a tourney team - likely equal records, equal conference team, one beat the other 2/3 and playing way better at the end of the season.  It does not work this way but if Marquette ends up losing, Xavier belongs in more than they do. But 3 good wins in December will carry Marquette.

This is an accurate assessment.  We are not as good as today's opponent.  We blew opportunities throughout the season to avoid this buzzsaw of a matchup.

We miss every open corner three.  It's the easiest shot from distance in basketball, and we are one of the few teams in the sport that cannot make it.  It's quite infuriating.  This game is far from over, but there's not much hope.  We are an awful shooting team, and in the post season that spells doom.

This game is far from over, but the team hasn't given us much reason for hope on either end.  We are an awful shooting team, and in the post season that spells doom.

This is the crux of the which is a lower FG% shot - I'd argue a wild drive is a worse shot than a clean midrange.  Been so many times Jop has had no choice but to shoot a midrange at end of shot clock and he converts - I'd argue at a higher percentage than his at the time percentage.

Just a brutal offensive team that has shown no desire to improve clear issues.

The one thing I do agree with you offensively is the absurdity of all the missed shots inside 6 feet. If we're going to preach shots from the paint, everyone other than Kam and Jop need to get way better at them. Everyone is so rushed other than those two. Take your time, find a shot you're comfortable with. Throwing the ball at the rim doesn't make it a good shot no matter how close you are. I'd rather see Jop short and mid range fades than that crap.

Another 💩 performance.  I should have made a macro for this last half of the season.  Do not feel bad about giving up on watching the second half and going back to work.

Prediction - they will go down by 14-16, make a great rally to cut it to 3 or less, and then lose with mental mistakes or missed free throws down the stretch.

I hate to think about next season if it's a mix of these returnees and incoming hs recruits. Based on how this season has trended (beating Md,UW and Purdue seems like years ago), I don't see how Shaka can't go portaling. (And before I get harpooned...yeah, I know. Shaka ain't goin' to the portal.)

Quote from: BM1090 on March 13, 2025, 02:27:12 PMWe're not getting a bad whistle but the refs have been beyond inconsistent.

The ref blame is not the answer as usual.  The usual is live or die by the three and it is not working again.  MU is 5 for 15, on pace for another game over 30 three attempts.
The other usual is the aggressive defense, leading to reaching fouls and bump body fouls on layups.  The doubling teaming has resulted in X making outstanding passes to the open man when doubled, leading to baskets.  Again, same as every game. Kam, Joplin and Gold all have three and it will be nightmare if they pick up early number 3.

X has 11 assists already, MU has 5.  Shaka has some major adjustments to consider, game still in reach, long way to go.

It's not blame. Refs have called it equally. They've just got like 10 calls wrong and it's funny to watch how bad they are. Zero blame on the refs for how we're playing today.

Great second half in a very important game.  Confidence should be thru the roof.

Kept the threes going, this time in second half they went in. 9 for 18. They hit, it's a win or close.  Joplin's three was a huge boost.

Also 9 assists in second half and only 4 turnovers for the entire game.
Mitchell had five steals, made the free throws to seal it and kudos to Parham, he was fanastic in the comeback.

Best win in a very long time.

Congratulations on an impressive win.

Bracketology (https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/page/bracketology/ncaa-bracketology-2025-march-madness-men-field-predictions) - Joe Lunardi, ESPN - updated March 13, 2025

QuoteThursday's bracket math is fairly simple: Four teams are playing for two spots. Xavier and North Carolina -- which face Marquette and Wake Forest, respectively -- sit on the right side of the bubble ...

Marquette 89, Xavier 87 (https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401743879) - ESPN Box Score - March 13, 2025

... and a tip of my hat for the double-knockout - Xavier is now out of the BET and NCAAT. I don't even wish them well in the NIT.

Best of luck to the Warriors going forward!

Quote from: MU Fan in Connecticut on March 13, 2025, 02:46:52 PMSo some guy in the restroom asked me why Marquette U is not in Marquette, Michigan?  I'm feeling back in the late 80s and comments on the Weather Channel map.

You should've asked him why UConn isn't in northwest Canada.

This team found something at halftime that has been lacking as of late.  Great team effort on both ends of the court and finally figured out how to close out a tight game.

We cannot dig a big hole against SJU.  Let's play two solid halves and advance to the finals.

Go Warriors!

Ya....we've gotta punch first.  It would be nice if Benny could yank Zuby from the paint.
