The Scoopers who predicted we'd lose 5 straight to end the season and finish 6th in the BE.
Was on the road until the last 6 minutes of the game, so based almost entirely on the box score, I'd go Kam with HMs to Ben, Jop, and Stevie.
Joplin.
No hair of the game when "Should have been a 35 pt game by the 12 minutes mark and extended time for our bench."
Giving SOTG to Kam for 13 assists
Kam.
Easy
Gotta find the jumper and its getting late.
But Kam.
Kam
Kam
Jop because of the unwarranted abuse he took in the game thread. Dude had 17 points and 9 boards.
Kam 13 pts & 13 assists
HM to Joplin and Gold and Mitchell
Kam
All our starters played pretty well and scored in double figures. Really liked Chase's game. 5-7 and guarded Peavy very well all night.

Ben was great in the first half. Chase was solid. Jop did so many good things but too many dumb things. Felt like a pretty good Stevie game too.

He had 5 turnovers as a forward(4 of them terrible).
I'm genuinely curious if some people on this board just don't watch parts of games.
You abmonish people for hating on Jop.
Another poster on the game thread said he was the only negative at half(when he was 4/7 with 10 pts)
I corrected that poster about Jop having big buckets.
Vander blue man group the Asked if I could acknowledge Jops contributions.
LOL
Jop. Only five rebounds from Kam???
And watching post game highlights, most of his assists went to Stevie for easy baskets.
Seriously though, it could be Kam, Ben for his effort in the first half when the game mattered, Stevie for his overall play and torn jersey, or Jop for his all-around game.
And if it is Jop and they don't use the screen capture of that dunk, i'm canceling my subscription!
Gold.
Great scorer. Great on defense too.
Getting better when it matters.

I get why Jop gets hate. But it's disproportionate to how much he deserves. He went 7-11. Was our best rebounder. Played solid D. Yes his bad possessions stand out more. No he's not the best fit for this system. But he's our 3rd or 4th best player and does a lot of helpful things for the team yet takes the most abuse.
K1
Jop unfortunately goes full Jolp mode 2-3 times per game. These are usually very noticeable and regrettable which is why he gets grief.
He has become so much better over his career but the amount of abuse he gets is proportional to his inner Jolp moments.

No, I was just saying that I could see giving it to any of them. But yeah Kam had a great all around game.
I gotta go with Kam Jones.
Kam
David Joplin.
Kam was great, incredible at finding the open man in the 1H. Benny was very very good.
Tonight proved to me that this years team, for good or bad, needs Joplin to be good in order to make it an overall successful season- or a S16/E8 type season.
Quite a bit to unpack here.
Why did I think it was Jop tonight?
Because he was tough, he rebounded, and he shot 1-5 from 3 but was prevalent all over the court and an obvious difference maker.
There was a point in the 2H when GTown was making a run and Jop got an ORebound under the glass, in a spot where he always goes soft and fumbles around and either turns it over or throws it out, and he got real strong and went right back up with it for a strong bucket in a key time.
That's what this team needs from Joplin. If he hits some 3s at this point it's just the icing on the cake, but they need 15&8 Jop to win in elimination games.
As an aside, he also has several decent passes tonight- one to Benny for a flush and an other over his head Kam style for an open 3 that was missed
2nd part-
I mentioned overall successful season at this point being a S16/E8 trip.
In others words anything else is an unsuccessful season on the whole.
I paused for a bit, but thought about and and I think that this is accurate. Probably a full thread on its own, but I think that's where we are.
PS: I can still see a trip to the Elite 8 as a distinct possibility so that's good, for my mind at least
Jop actually had a couple of really nice passes tonight. Must have heard Cooley in the GTown huddle.
Absolutely Kam. It was his on the basis of that one pass he whipped to Ben. Still don't know how he hit that angle with that much velocity.

...great Carnac, please share the ncaa matchups for MU that you are prognosticating in your mind.
1. Kam- was running the show.
2. Gold - finished when he needed to.
3. Jop- His awful dribbling and turnovers ruin a very good game

Hmm. I did list him third as stog so I did value his points and rebounds.
He had 5 turnovers and almost all self inflicted with his dribble. I value holding on to the ball.
He also took some ill advised three point shots.
He had a good game but not stog. He has huge struggles when he dribbles into traffic.
As well as making plays to help stop the run. The full Jop experience.

Antone who spends a mere 5 minutes post (any) game on scoop will be informed of Jop's weaknesses. The game threads are also great places to learn about what he does wrong. So listing him as your 3rd pick is valuing his points and rebounds? OK. Repeating his weaknesses here is a nice touch. But we all know that.
I just thought your post needed to be counterbalanced specifically for last night's game, as the thread is Hoyas STOG.
Edit: Did you notice Kam went 0-5 in 3s?
Stevie for getting his jersey torn and wearing 33 as a result, which confuses the opponents.
Or Kam. lol. Kam yeah for sure
Since MU covered, Cam

Couple TOs for Kam too. Only perfection is SoG worthy ... so none for this (or any) game.

That would be the game I was referencing.
I did notice Kam went 0-5.
Kam was the dominant force in the first half when we blew them out of the waters.
Its not like I said Jop was the worst player on the court. I thought he had a good game, but the turnovers when he is trying to dribble are hard to ignore. So shitty 3 point shooting by both being equal, my opinion is Kam was stog. The passes and decision making by Kam were very good.
So let's just agree to disagree.

Kam.
If Joplin took abuse it's terrible. Shaka should never put him in a position to make decisions on offense or dribble on more than straight line drives. Joplin has done a great job on defense, rebounds decently and is a great catch and shoot three point shooter, straight line driver, and has, gulp, the best mid range game on the team.
Minus the turnovers on things he should NEVER be doing, he is in the conversation for SOTG. But Kam was completely indispensable this game.

And 2 assists. I usually do not vote because the Putin of Scoop, AKA Rocky, gives the STOG to whomever he wants to. ;D
But....I really like your rationale. Along with Tower's vote, I believe my vote for Jop brings the total to 3. Rocky will probably pick Tre because he made 100% of his shots, got 2 rebounds and a steal.

Sultan,
Coaches put guard rails on players all the time.
"Jop, if you have the ball in the back court, get it to a guard". "Jop, if you have to make more than three dribbles and dribble into three players again on offense, you are coming out of the game". "Jop, we love you but don't do more than you are asked".
Joplin has turnovers that can be seen way before they occur. He has not gotten better at dribbling or decision making in four years. He does many other things really well. It's time to win big games. Not repeat the same mistakes over and over and over. I love Jop when he does what he does well. I have said what I think he does well. He is an asset to the team, even indispensable. But those turnovers are going to cost this team in the tournament. They are unforced and unnecessary.

I think these are things people THINK coaches say, but they really don't.
Anyway, he likely has less than ten games left in his career. He's not changing now.

Jop has some rough possessions but other than his shooting disappearing he isn't a problem. I'm thankful for his defense and rebounding as well.
Hey, it is what it is. I'm only pointing out the obvious. If you are not cringing when he handles the ball in a decision making capacity you are swimming in the Joplin deep end.

The only thing I don't like about Joplin is his dribbling. His decision making lapses may be a product of not being a good ball handler. I really like everything else. Indispensable on this team. Needs to excel at the things he does well for the team to advance in the tournament.
