Every team in the country often wears white. It's a home game.
I don't own a white MU shirt, so will be sticking with my gold ones.
Truthfully I'm surprised we don't do white-outs more regularly. So far we've gotten two this year and that's probably plenty. But if I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I'm wrong), I don't think we had a single one last year, and I can't recall if we had one the year before that either.
White-outs obviously do a great job of encouraging students/fans to attend big games, so you'd think the staff would be a little more intentional with them. But fortunately it does seem like they've turned that around this season.

The only Packer game I went to this year was a white out and I had to stop at 3 stores in GB to find a white Packer shirt to buy. I'm not falling for this again.
You could just wear white. It doesn't have to say Packers or Marquette on it.

Thankfully there are none!
On the TV interview yesterday Shaka pointed out there's not a ton of teams outside of the 70s and 03 teams that we can honor so he's actually really excited to have an opportunity to honor guys from another era.
Got me thinking of another interview he gave 2yrs ago where he said he only wants the teams that truly achieved something on the wall outside his office and I'm thinking if that's all he's willing to honor beyond the aforementioned years then it's only 6 teams... 8 if you include the past 2 seasons, thats a depressing realization
The teams that have always been honored in the media guide/record book are:
1951-52: National Catholic Tournament Champions
1966-67: NIT Runners-Up
1969-70: NIT Champions
1973-74: NCAA Runners-Up
1976-77: NCAA Champions
1993-94: GMC Regular Season Champions
1994-95: NIT Runners-Up
1996-97: CUSA Tournament Champions
2002-03: CUSA Regular Season Champions/Final Four
2012-13: BE Regular Season Co-Champions
2022-23: BE Regular Season Champions/BE Tournament Champions
Personally, I'd probably take the Catholic Champions and NIT Runners-Up off the list.
It's hard enough being a white male in the year 2025 without having Marquette organized attempts to keep me out.

Sounds like the Wojo era. Watching an NIT game at MECCA.
I think the '95 NIT was fun because of the circumstances of that team. They weren't that far removed from being really bad, plus with O'Neil leaving, and Key, Logterman and Mac graduating, I think there were concerns about how good they were actually going to be.
They were 12-10 at one point...went on a nice little streak to finish the season...went 1-1 in the Great Midwest tournament. So they had to rally to even get into the NIT.
So there was optimism. And it was well-placed optimism because the 95-96 team was pretty good! #4 seed with a bad match up against #12 Arkansas in the second round.
Man, if you somehow have access to that game I'd love to relive it. I started going to games with my dad the first year the BC was open, I had never seen MU play at the MECCA. I was 9, and I couldn't believe the atmosphere that night. Still one of my favorite games, NIT or not.
That run was the springboard for Hutch, who was such a fun, clutch player for MU.

Ok, I'm not a sweater vest, but I am old. How or why does a white out encourage students/fans to attend a game?
I'm not sure if I'm on the fence about going to a game that a white out would be the deciding factor. Just askin'

Older fans, maybe not. But students, definitely. I also say this as someone who's a young alumnus.
Even in high school, white-outs have always been great motivators to attend games. It's simply fun to be part of a huge white mob (don't take this the wrong way). Student sections by themselves aren't always noticeable, but a group clad in white
always sticks out. It promotes unity and helps you feel involved. Being asked to show up in a specific color also enables students to get more creative with their appearance than they normally would (e.g., body paint), and that, in turn, encourages participation. Any time you have a special theme, it feels like a holiday.
Nowadays, you could also say it has to do with social media. There isn't a soul in my generation that doesn't live on Instagram. And none of us can resist the opportunity to post a unique photo that shows us doing fun things. A photo at a white-out always garners tons of likes since everyone - even strangers - can relate to the experience. Everyone's Instagram feed was always filled with white-out posts for the 24 hours after they happened, and those who didn't attend were more likely to feel left out.
So yeah, they do a good job of promoting attendance.
