We've used 14 of 15 schollys for next year.

I'm here for fifth year Stevie.

Maybe we could bring back Chris Otule for a seventh year.

I'm not sure I understand any limits on eligibility.

Players like Hunter Dickinson will sue and probably be successful to allow for unlimited eligibility.

Still waiting on the lawsuit saying "I only had a cup of coffee in the pros, I want to come back to school!"

Is that proposal for all divisions?

Did not look into it that far. I would assume so, but probably less incentive for DIII athletes that don't receive any scholarships.

The report I heard indicated that the new 5 year eligibility will apply to all sports, all levels. And, it sounded like it is pretty much a done deal, but I am unsure when it would take effect. I also am unsure what happens to the current red-shirt years.

I don't like the idea, but I do think Shaka would kill it with an extra year. You'd still be able to send the TK, Kam, Oso types to the NBA on their schedule, but getting year five Stevie, Jop, Gold, that would be huge. And a bigger benefit here because you wouldn't be acclimating those year five guys to a new system like most programs would be.

I agree. It is essentially a job right now. Why are there any limitations on them being eligible?

It used to be rooted in the idea of "amateurism," but that is long gone, as they are professionals already. I don't see any legal grounds to limit their eligibility, beyond maybe some kind of total number of years you can play in the league.

Jimmy Buckets is looking for a place to play and has eligibility left.....We would have to find a lot of NIL though.....

Yeah, it's a job now. Another year of work for the non NBA types.

Currently, If a player hasn't graduated after using eligibility, is it generally a rule they can continue on scholarship until they graduate (just the tuition) so they can finish and move forward in life. Again the non pro types who just weren't able to complete the credits.

When hasn't it been a job?  The players are finally being compensated for the insane amount of work they put in.

Maybe technically, but not really.

A scholarship isn't spendable. You can't cash one in to buy a car. It's not money.

Before 3 years ago, every student at Marquette, including most athletes, could make money off his or her name, image and likeness ... except for basketball players. It was unjust and anti-capitalist.

Lots of students who have no real talents and/or who do not bring one cent of revenue into a university get scholarships. Hell, I had one - no more proof is necessary!
