Bluejays  a dangerous well coached Big East squad. Need to stay focused on D and moving the ball.

A weird matchup with both teams have advantages offensively.

Marquette guards should be able to bully CU guards, but CU has the ability to get hot from deep over the top. Also gotta prevent Kalkbrenner from getting too many easy ones. They utilized the lob more than I recall with him last night and it was really effective.

I'll say MU is a 7.5 point favorite.

The bad (Scheier)man can't hurt us anymore. Last season he scored 23 and 26 in our home and away games against Creighton, respectively. So I'm glad we won't be seeing him again.

The dependence on shooting and lack of size/physicality reminds me of our matchup against Purdue. I think this game will go similarly.

Steven Ashworth had 10 turnovers by himself vs SJU.  If he even approaches that number vs MU, we will see another 28pt win on Fri.

haven't seen a line yet on this game...any thoughts?

o/u 148

MU -6.5

final score MU 75-67

our defense will continue to frustrate opponents.  we will win more decisively than final score appears as creighton will try to close out strong making a 3 pointer in the last few seconds of done deal

A little concerned about how we matchup with Kalkbrenner. He has only been called for 12 fouls this season and 0 in Big East play through 3 games which both seem pretty ridiculous.

That being said, MU by 11.

Besides Creighton going on an absolute heater from three, the one aspect of the matchup that I could see causing problems would be MU's switching, and the potential for guards to get cheap fouls when switched onto Kalkbrenner.

Ya I'm not really worried about scoring, it's the way we matchup with Kalkbrenner on the other end...and he doesn't get called for fouls so he may play nearly the whole game.

I don't think he will be nearly enough to win CU the game so they will also have to be hitting from outside. Like MU by double digits. Every night usually is, but this feels like a really really good Kam Jones spot.

It's become obvious Schierman was their MVP the last two years. Mason Miller was expected to replace his three point shooting and has been a total bust. Losing Issacs is huge, he could have checked Kam. Ross will have a total mismatch being defended by Ashworth, as there is no way McDermott will put him on Kam.

Agree on Scheierman, and he always played well against us in particular. Not sure on his numbers but McAndrew looks like a pretty solid player from the eye test. Neal looks solid as well. I still think MU should be able to cause a lot of problems for them in the TO category.

Got it. You were talking about fouls so I assumed you were worried about CU's defense.

I'm sure he'll get some easy buckets but I think we're better suited to guard him this year than in the past, and I think we prevent more mismatches for them than in the past too.

This.  Stevie ate Ashworth alive both games last year.  Throw Chase at Neal, and guard the three point line. Do what Hurley did against Purdue last year (Although Kalk is obviously no where as good as Edey was).

What's the vibe on Zugic from Creighton fans? From the little I know, he was hyped as being one of their better players and has been a complete non-factor in the first two games while playing minimal minutes. Maybe they are more patient than us, but I don't think that would go over well here in a similar situation. Hopefully this isn't his breakout game since we should be pretty familiar with the rest of the team. Btw, why is Mason Miller having such a terrible year? Anyway, should be a great crowd tonight and excited for this one.

I think people generally overestimate the quality of the European clubs players like Zugic come from. I remember when we were nervous that UCLAs 7 foot Turk was deemed eligible right before our game last season. He was a non factor and has been meh over two seasons now.  X got a trio of touted transfers from Europe last season and all of them ended up coming off the bench for a bad team by the end of the season. I fell for it this summer when were recruiting Maxi Langenfeld from Germany. I thought he would push for 6th or 7th man minutes here.  He's currently glued to a bench in Boca Raton. I think Zugic may fall into this category

Tuesday wasnt quite the turning point yet

Zaide two wide open bricks in a couple possessions

Have to make those if Kam is going to be a passer

This teams ceiling is solely dependent on ever finding a way to make wide open looks

I'm not asking for 21/31 Wisconsin type games

But man we gotta start having more 12/25 games with the looks we generate.

We aren't a good 3 point shooting team. We are good at getting a lot of shots and ultimately making enough to win. They will likely only have really good 3 point shooting games on rare occasions. That's just who we are.

Just gotta start playing our game.

Quote from: GoldenEagles03 on January 03, 2025, 10:09:11 PMTrue, but the 3s they take are usually very open and they still don't make em.

Frustrating because it feels like they are more than capable.

I completely agree.  I can't even describe my frustration.

That was a terrible call from Creighton to go zone there. Incredible D from our guys on the other end. Wow.

Unbelievable.

The fact they had to use their last TO with 20 seconds already off the shot clock is just beautiful.

Good teams find ways to win on off nights.

Now we knew they would pack the paint but Kalky makes it difficult to score inside.

That said, we're a much better team when we have a balanced scoring attack and  exercise a bit more patience.

On the defensive end, MU did an excellent job tonight.

He disrupted Kalk shot shortly before.  Kalk missed a lot tonight.  4 for 11.  Got his point on the line.

Marquette lost.  Gold can't block out, Stevie is a dumb fouler and can't shoot and Parbrick appeared

All of you will be thrilled to know that Muggsy will be checking in periodically over the next 2.5 weeks from Singapore, Indonesia, and Japan.

Hopefully someone brings it in the game thread and the motivation and focus is still there.

Did TV explain why the under 8 timeout happened at 8:18 after the Stevie "delay of game?" I thought Creighton took a timeout, but they took 5 total last night.
