MU has had so many dismal performances in recent years in their first conference road games that I have come to expect them. Last year's blowout loss to PC was the latest example.

Maybe they can buck that trend today in what shapes up to be a battle of 3 points shooting.

You're always negative Blue.  We are a very solid team.  The last few weeks we have played poorly but we're bound to break out.

I just don't understand how Jop as a senior can have such a bad basketball IQ.

Inconsistent shooting. Lake of coordination. Ok.

But the mind numbling dumb stuff he does on drives is the issue.

The focus for the rest of the year should be getting Owens ready to take Jops minutes in the tourney.

Put the ball in his hands and let him make mistakes.

If I have the option of a 2 seed with Jop or a 5 seed letting Damarius learn all season I'll take the 5

His D is great.

It just the objectively stupid offensive decisions that are the problem. And compounded when he's currently in a shooting slump on good shots as well

Rewatched the Butler game and clear so far early, Ben can defend. He actually got beat for zero baskets off the dribble against butler. There were a few shots made over him but his positioning was great on all of them and moved his feet well.

Today, if Kam gets it together we will be just fine

You're right about their offense, but they are driving and kicking to shooters that we want shooting for the most part.

I think we actually matchup with X a lot better if Fremantle plays.

Kam needs the team shrink at the half what in the world

Also, his 3 pt shot overall has been off since the first couple games, think it has to do with how much he's handling the ball

But wooooooooof that half all around for him.

Nice to be up but lots of blown opportunities. X is playing good D and Swain has Kam's number. Kam's 3 pt attempt was brutal.

MU needs to get Kam off the ball a bit. Could really use Sean Jones in this game.

MU also playing good D. Jop and Gold playing particularly well on that end. Ross seems a little off on D. Ankle?

If I was reffing that game I would've called a foul.

If that was against Marquette down 2 with 1s left I'd best most on here would've called for a foul.

Chase played his worst game in a Marquette uniform, and there was no need to defend like that there, but he got away with one

He clearly stepped on the left foot of Ross.  It was a foul.  Marquette should have put this team away but made far too many miscues with under 10 minutes left.  A road win is sweet, but away from home MU has not been effective at closing out games.  The Maryland win was similar.  Free throw shooting in the waning moments of these contests has been an iffy proposition.  #thegreatescape

Whistle or not, this team has to reframe their mindset away from Fiserv. They collapsed in two games, and almost gave the other two away. The other team signed up for 40. Can't go into cruise control.

Continuity and experience should have helped mitigate this, but apparently not.

The silver lining - Xavier took a one point lead with under two minutes left and MU responded.  The team could have wilted once Xavier grabbed the advantage, but the guys counter punched and claimed a huge road win.  Stevie Mitchell is the star of the game for his defensive plays with this one hanging in the balance.

Quote from: Goose on December 21, 2024, 01:37:20 PMRoad wins are tough in BE and MU has one in the books. This team needs to start playing smarter and moving the ball on offense or they will be making much harder on themselves.

Well said Goose.  We must be better and we are better.  Gotta play with far more poise and with our experience this shouldn't be a problem.

Quote from: Jockey on December 21, 2024, 01:18:35 PMAnother great road win.

X will be a S16 team.

Xavier isn't a S16 caliber team. They're a bubble team, but still a quality win to get at their place.

Quote from: Vander Blue Man Group on December 21, 2024, 01:17:34 PMNah.  Game wouldn't have been in that position to begin with if they weren't atrocious.  Marquette didn't help by playing terribly during that stretch.

This is 100% accurate and indisputable.

Hell, they need to remain a Q1 road win for us first.

Quote from: WhiteTrash on December 21, 2024, 01:40:24 PMMy first reaction was "foul" on MU, but he didn't purposely kick his foot out so just like when you drive through traffic in the lane, the defender is not required to move his feet out of the way.

Looked but couldn't find the definition of a trip. It looked to me like Ross had his foot planted and X player stepped on it as Ross was pulling it away. Not sure if that meets the rule. Happy for the no call.

I do feel our bench is coming along nicely on the defensive end. Need to start hitting shots on offense, but thought the freshmen in particular played pretty well.

Read this first.  I assume MU lost by 30 and the whole team was left at the airport while the charter flew home empty.

You were smart to start here for a level-headed analysis of this game.

FWIW, Fox studio guy said "no foul".
