Really missing our heroes playing in a Thanksgiving(ish) event this year.
Anyone know which events Marquette is playing in the next couple of years?
They aren't. It is the long term plan to play as many games without TV as possible.

No future MTEs have been announced. When I talked to Broeker earlier this year, it sounded like they are going to focus less on annual MTEs and more on getting into the marquee events like Maui & Atlantis.
Past that, I expect more hosted events like we had this year, or smaller 1/2 game events like this Georgia one-off or 2 games. Programs are placing a higher value on revenue generating home games, which will lead to 3-game events suffering or splitting into two 4-team brackets with high majors in one and mids in three other with them not playing each other.

Wasn't there a thought that we may be in Atlantis next year? Also players era would be a good one.
Do you know why MU didn't try and do what Georgia did with St Johns? And schedule Baylor/Virginia?Tennesse while down here? I feel like that would be better than giving a team like Dayton a home and home.

I do think they will push for Atlantis next year. We'll see about Players' Era and if it continues beyond this year. MTEs tend to make $500k-$2M at the high end for event organizers. Dishing out $8M to the teams involved seems like a pretty quick way to go in debt.
St. John's is a little different in that they're playing in an MTE there (Baha-Mar) and added the UGA game after. I suspect they went with Dayton to make sure they had a home game on the 2025 schedule along with Maryland, knowing they'll be traveling to Purdue and Madison next year.

Yeah I was very surprised when I saw the PE payouts. Crazy.
Oh yeah I know why SJU is there. I meant why didnt we do what Georgia did. Snagging a 2nd game with one of the teams in the tourney with St Johns.
But yeah, I'm sure its to lock in that home game. Just not thrilled about giving Dayton their Superbowl when I could care less about playing them.
Now that I'm on the West Coast, I'd love an event in Vegas or Cali or something. Is there still that big Nike event in Portland?

No more Charlotte?

I think Marquette didn't want to give up a home game for it. Knowing they had Purdue, Wisconsin, Maryland, Georgia, and a B12 school (turned out to be ISU) was 5 major games and the expectation was we were going to play NC State. So rather than add a 7th HM game when they already had a solid non-con schedule, they made it a one-off to maintain the revenue they could get from Stonehill/WCU next week.
Had they known NC State would fall through and they'd have to hook up with Dayton might they have made a different decision? Maybe, maybe not. But I understand the reasoning. They have challenged themselves and didn't need another game to prove anything. It's also possible they couldn't find a partner. You can only get that game if one of Baylor, Tennessee, or Virginia are also willing to give up a home game to grant it.

For better or worse, we have followed the grandkids to Seattle. Sold our Charlotte home and got here about 6 weeks ago. We are still living in a rental house, but Mrs. 82 is pretty adamant on making Seattle our permanent home, so it'll probably happen.
This just in: It's raining.
Go back to Charleston.

Just got through my first bomb cyclone. Knocked out power to my daughter's neighborhood for 2 full days.

Good news, Mike - it'll stop. Bad news - not until May or June. I lived in Seattle for the summer of '73 - weather was pretty much perfect the whole time. Been back a few times to visit friends. Other than the 9 month drip, drip, drip it's a fun town. Good luck!
Great move following the kids / grandkids. I used to travel up to Seattle quite a bit for business. Beautiful city that I think you will really enjoy. One very important question for you: Will you now be rooting for the Seahawks / Mariners?

Except for a 2-year stint when she lived in Charlotte, our daughter has lived in Seattle since 2010. We visited her many times over the years, in all seasons, so we knew what we were getting into weather-wise. We know there will be a nice payoff come summertime! And yes, Seattle is a fun town.

Lots of financial gurus would have advised against moving across the country to a much more expensive area just to follow the kids/grandkids. But what the heck ... life is a series of adventures, right? We've ended up getting a lot out of every move we've made as adults.
As for your question ... of course! I've already started to get into the Seahawks, and I'm sure the Mariners will follow. I've been to a couple of Kraken games - don't forget about them - and I'll definitely go to some Storm games. And my daughter has been a Sounders STH for years; they have a group of 16 people who really have fun at the games. I'm not a big soccer fan, but I've tagged along a couple times and I've enjoyed it.
Oh, and of course Mrs. 82 and I will be joining the Marquette Club of Seattle for some game-watching events. The first one this season is for the Madison game, and we'll be there!
Now if (returning to the OP) we could just get MU to play in an in-season tournament out west every so often, I'd dig that!

Say hi to Keefe at the MU gatherings for me!

New bff's. Lived there a couple years, never told the meat crew.
Maybe I'll finally get that six-pack Keefe owes me from our bet on whether or not Sam would be an NBA player.

Only if you'll admit you were a pervert for calling Erin Andrews a bombshell like 15 years ago!
Just don't fire anyone for shaving their heads!
This Georgia neutral site game is worse statistically for us then playing Dayton away right?

Congrats Brother MU. I absolutely love Seattle. On a clear, sunny day (all six of them a year), there is no nicer place on the planet.
Enjoy yourself. I'm envious!
