Title: MU-georgia spread?
Post by: rocket surgeon on November 21, 2024, 04:50:38 PM
I can't find a line on our game yet-anyone have any thoughts?

Georgia is 5-0 but their only real test seems to be their win vs Georgia tech and they are unranked

how does one set up a line here?  MU numbers in parentheses

they average 87(81.6) ppg while giving up 66.6(63.8)

they avg shooting almost 50%(45.1) and 31%(30.5) from 3 as a team

  15(15.4) asst, 7.4(12) steals and 13(8.4) turnovers

based on strength of schedule and our defense, my guesstimate would be MU fav -8-10 with an over/under around 150

but if Ben gets hot, Katie bar the door!  he got a little twinkle in his eye vs purdue ;D

my 2nd guesstimate-MU 80-64

our defense will have them wondering what the...and the final score won't reflect garbage time

Kenpom has MU -7.  I expect it to come in +/- .5pts from there.  After the Purdue win, I would lean closer to 7.5

Jesus doesn't play the spread.  He provides the spread to his flock.  Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned from this.

My gut was 150 and he has it as 78-71.  So pretty equal but I would take the under.  I think if MU only allowed Purdue to score 58 I don't see Georgia getting to 71.  Obviously any given day but call it 78 - 65 or 69.  I haven't watched any Georgia games but they haven't played anyone yet.  The best competition is GT (KP 105) which was 77-69 road win.

They look like they play 6-7 player rotation.  Offense is relatively spreadout with 5 players averaging in double figures.  That is probably a byproduct of their competition. Not a great shooting three point team.

Don't bet the under on loaves and fishes?

Jesus wouldn't.

Some people walk in his footsteps.  Some people trample those same footsteps running to the window to place bets.  Very sad

I'm expecting a tight game with MU suffering from what Dodds would call a "Purdue Hangover"

The Georgia profile reminds me of NC State last year with the dramatic overhaul of its roster, including a couple of those 5th year transfers. It's always hard to know when or if teams with that kind of foster construction will gel.

Both teams are likely to be disjointed due to the circumstances.  One off in the Bahamas, early in the day, etc.  MU's continuity and experience again carries the day.

Where you apparently can't buy tickets for it, or watch it on "tv".

Why weren't they able to find themselves in a tournment? Is it all on a strict cycle? They've never been in battle for Atlantis

the thing is, remind me as I may have missed it, but why did we schedule this game?  it's in the bahamas-big whup!  what does that gym hold?  2500 maybe??  and it's being "televised" on something called flo??  this is a big game!  someone either fu'dged up or paid big NIL cash or fill in the blank guess but pretty dissappointing

Where are all the complaints about Marquette's Marketing Department?   Someone is missing an opportunity.

Because MU chose not to and have more home games, with a challenging noncon. I'll forgive you since you're a dentist.

Shooting background issues; at least we'll have an excuse

Saturdays game screams biggest trap game of the season imo. Hope Shaka has them ready to go.

After a few bunnies the team starts a "month of mayhem" if you will from 12/3-1/4

@ Iowa St, Dayton, Xavier, Providence
V Wisconsin, Butler, Creighton

That's a pretty brutal 7 game, 31 day stretch.

Keep playing good defense Dr. V and we should be ok. Also, I agree Saturday is an interesting mental test.  Can't let their guard down. Would be great to get that win and move into the top ten.

great points doc.  hopefully the rest of those games will be easily accessed via more "conventional" forms of television/streaming, etc  if not for goolsby's, might have had to follow via Morse code

With conference consolidation there aren't a lot of good ones that provide three games. Marquette decided it would be better to host one with three cupcakes and load up the non-conference schedule a bit more.

This is a growing trend too. Duke did something similar last year.
