3rd triple double in Marquette history.
1st since D Wade.
Kam passes to his roommate and fellow 4 year star Stevie to enter the record books.
How can you not be romantic about Marquette Basketball?
So proud to be a Marquette fan, I got the full misties.
I've never been more certain that a Stevie jump shot was going in than that one. It is what any sports movie screen writer would have happen

Nice post Doc. My Gawd, our guys were absolutely spectacular tonight.

I felt the same way. Stevie wasn't going to miss that one given the significance. Special moment!

Yeah, that one was never gonna miss. God wasn't gonna let that happen!

Especially considering that Stevie is not a prolific 3 point shooter. Stevie's make was HUGE!!!
Was trying to be low-key but when Stevie hit that 3 I hollered out a whoop.

I totally did the same!
I punched the air. This is the benefit of having players 4 years. Watching them grow and evolve. Appreciate it.
Kam was amazing with the triple double, but perhaps just as amazing was his willingness to stand in the corner while being face guarded and let MU take Purdue apart playing 4-on-4 at times. He's the best player on the court by miles, a senior with a green light, used to take some questionable shots, and he damn near played a perfect game. What he has done for himself, by embracing the coaching around him, is one of the more amazing things I've witnessed at MU. He owned that game.
Stewie?
Wasn't Kolek a rebound away from one at DePaul two seasons ago?
Avid
Agree completely. In addition, he is showing outstanding leadership for this team. A true success story.

I recall Tyler flirting with a triple double, but I don't remember the specific numbers.

Yeah, Kam is going to have his rebounding numbers skyrocket this year because Shaka wants his PG hitting the glass when shots go up to quickly initiate the offense. That was the reason Tyler was second on the team in rebounding last year.

Correct. The game at DePaul in the 2022-23 season he had 24 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds.

Kam has been my wife's favorite player since his Freshman year. She loved him because he'd take a 30' shot, get yanked by Shaka, and then return and take another 30' shot. She loved his spirit and predicted at the time that he'd be a special player.

But was he the SOTG that night?

No studs when you lose or when you play DePaw

I just gave a silent air punch because my wife had dozed off on the couch.
Can always tell a big moment when it draws high-fives from random fans in your vicinity.
Last night was one of those moments.
Quote from: Newsdreams on November 20, 2024, 09:49:03 AMMy wife came out of the room (game started at 10 PM last night here) and told me to calm down
I was holding my baby who had drifted off. I tried to be as calm as possible but my "woo go Kam!" Scared her and she started screaming, she calmed down when I explained what a triple double was.
I was decidedly not silent at Fiserv last night.
I would love to find it but not sure I'll be able to. I remember when Kam committed to Marquette the video on YouTube that was easiest to find was Kam playing a king of the court 1 on 1 type situation where the new guy on plays defense and if he gets the stop, he is now the offensive player, but if the offensive player scores he keeps staying on as a new defender comes on. Kam kept finding his way to the basket and doing these weird angle shots with all different body angles and stuff, and I thought, "Yeah that's never happening in a Big East/high level game." well...

The one play where he did an inside-out dribble, drove the baseline, went under the basket, contorted his body impossibly and then made the reverse was absolutely incredible ... yet he's done similar many times. I also loved the little 5-foot scoop shot, somehow twisting his body around the defender.
He's Gumby, dammit!

Hah, there it is. Thanks. I remembered him doing the "rock the baby" like a hundred times.
He can only be stopped by Josh Clark.

It's not safe to hold a child during an MU game. My kids know to give me a 10' perimeter at all times.

I was being quiet throughout the game, as mrs pbiflyer was sleeping (east coast), but I let out such a yelp at Stevie's three that she thought I was having a massive medical event. She was concerned enough to call our life insurance agent..... ;D
Perhaps I'm overthinking things but I'm wondering if Stevie should get more FGA's? He takes the fewest shots in our starting line-up. He also is draining free throws at a high clip. I like our guards. A lot. Although I do want to see ZL and TN grow and gain confidence.

Re Stevie, Scoop has sure come a long way!
Only a year ago, folks were talking about getting him out of the starting lineup; now we all can't praise him enough - and some want him to become a higher-volume shooter.
Personally, I'm an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" guy. Stevie is getting his within the framework of our offense, and we're winning impressively against quality opponents.
And I trust Shaka and Stevie to know what's best.

A year ago? Just a couple months ago, someone said this: "I don't follow this off-season as close as some of you do, but I will suggest Cam (sic), Chase and Ben are the core of the team.... I don't doubt Stevie and David will start but by the end of the season, I suspect Tre and maybe Owens or Hamilton and possibly Zaide will be break-out players."
It took some onions to make that shot. Stevie absolutely knew what was on the line and that if he missed, they probably wouldn't have another chance. The entire Fiserv held their breath when he caught the ball.
We've got some great ones on this team
Quote from: TAMU, Knower of Ball on November 20, 2024, 03:42:01 PMThe entire Fiserv held their breath when he caught the ball.
Except Shaka. He told Homer on the postgame show he didn't realize that was for a triple-double until after it happened.
Pretty sure everyone else in the Fiserv rose to their feet (if they weren't already standing) when that ball was in mid-air.

Agree! Kam and Stevie were both at the top of the key and Stevie floated to the corner! Felt the same way that shot was going in!
