Maryland seems to have a lot of open hots and drives. Hope we can stop some of this.
Thanks
That aged well.
Those open hots can kill ya.

I don't think their cheerleaders are hot

Quit ruining threads.
Travels.
Defense travels
I think we will continue see even more emphasis on defense this year and future years. This year the defense is definitely at a higher level and expect that it only will improve.

I thought Marquette's defense was impressive as hell last night. They didn't force a ton of turnovers but enough against a team that has done a good job not turning it over (caveats and all given competition).
Also, held their own on the boards and actually outreboudned Maryland on the offensive glass.
I have my doubts about Maryland's ceiling but any road win against a power conference team to start the season on the road is hard to complain about
A buddy rewatched the second half. Noted that Queen only missed two shots, both were when Gold was guarding him. All his points came against Hamilton and Parham. If people wonder why he plays, that's why.
Shaka said post game that the next step is to get DO to actually guard the ball.
The defense is good and will get better. Royce and Caedin both had noticeable defensive lapses. Which is fine. 4th college game and fixable. Moving their feet. When to show, when to switch. And both made enough good plays to contribute and not despair for the future.
Again, in his presser, Shaka said that building up the young guys is the top priority. Called it 'our way.'

Shaka always tells folks what the program is, what it's doing and where it's going. Not complicated to follow along

Yep.
That atmosphere was amazing, one of the best I've ever been in.
The Maryland faithful were fully engaged and that place gets LOUD.
The two constants that I heard repeatedly all night from their fans were
"Their defense is suffocating" and "that boy can play" (Kam)
That second one was odd to hear because we don't particularly hear it much anymore but that's a conversation for a different day and board

I don't think Maryland is a world beater that might be my only negative takeaway from the win. MU had to work extremely hard to get the win and there are tougher battles ahead. That said, I do think the experience and culture always helps a Shaka led team to have an advantage in that area. Plus, I think the defense leading the way vs. the offense levels the playing field more times than not.
I think all three freshmen are going to be very good and it looks like recruiting continues to improve and that is good news for the future. For this season, hopefully they continue to dial in on defense and hopefully the shots begin to fall.
It is pretty cool because we can probably count on one hand the number of games a Shaka team looked like the underdog in 3+ seasons. You keep doing that and you might end up catching in a bottle in March one of these years.
There are 10 B1G teams right now between 23-39 in Kenpom, including Maryland.
They'll beat each other up a little in conference play and won't all get in, but those are all tournament level teams.
Beating a tournament level team in their gym is good no matter how it happens.

Yup Queen was just having his way with them, was just blowing by. Gold even when offensive player goes by him he often disrupts or blocks the shot. And before any one points it out and yes sometimes he fouls :)

Absolutely. Shaka is bringing in the type of recruits who can play the D he wants to play. Our D was really good for most of the game yesterday, and it will become a Hallmark of Shaka's Marquette teams.
I agree with you and Rico about Maryland, but beating a decent-to-good Big Ten team on the road in front of 16,000 loud, adversarial fans ... that's a tremendous Q1 win.

Also at most, there are maybe 4 BE teams that will provide us with a better road win in conference
Massive to get this one

I actually disagree. I think Maryland is easily in the top third of the B1G this year.
Considering that equals 6th place...

Yeah, but top 6 means a tourney birth!

A tourney berth perhaps, but there will be no birth!

You should give other posters a wider birth since your a type-o machine two.

I think Maryland has a nice team and it was a very nice win. I just do not know where Maryland will end up in the B10 at the end of the season. Just was comparing it to the win last season at Illinois and I thought confident would age well.

Agree. I was a little nervous about the amount of PT Shaka gave to bench players, but if Kam fouled out and other starters were in foul trouble fairly early? Queen will only get better, and I think the road W will age well. Queen was like a hot knife cutting through butter.

You don't know if he was talking about the birth of an entirely new tournament
